It may work for a while but in the end they will force you to update with cruel tactics. I turned of updates through regedit and after about 8 months they locked me out of my email until I ran update. Damn Gates!!!
I really hate it when they shut you down in the middle of something just for a stupid update that does nothing for me except fill my HD with garbage. I've been in the middle of a game and the system just reboots and I lose everything in the game. Every time you get your computer working good they shut it down, update & screw up all your settings that tweeked your computer. It's like buying a car and putting mag wheels on then the copyright police want to nail you, If I buy something then it's mine to use as I see fit stay out of my OS and stop turning on things I turn off to improve my system speed and reliability.

Neither methods works, another service will start windows update after a period.
