What if you could SPARE Sans in UNDERTALE?

I'm surprised something like this hasn't been fleshed out yet.
This ain't just Sparing the boi, it goes ALL the way to the neutral ending, with new ASGORE and Flowey stuff and a unique phone call at the end too!

The small detail regarding Asgore just *barely* recognizing you as human only because you're still at LOVE 19 is honestly great.
It's always the smaller touches in these animations.

Bro put those mercy buttons for asgore and flowey just to tease us lmao

Sans when he realizes you can't destroy the world if he lets you spare him:

also, I love the detail of Frisk only taking 1 damage from Asgore's attacks cause The Locket has 99 DF and unlike Sans...Asgore can't remove invincibility frames like Sans can

This is SO good, especially the part where Asgore explains why it's pointless to destroy the barrier. I had never thought about it like that, but it makes a lot of sense, because even though WE know Asriel refused to kill the humans, Asgore and Toriel probably thought he just wasn't strong enough, and that is so heartbreakingly logical :(
Great work! :)

The detail of asgore not breaking the mercy button cause you're not gonna use it anyway is neat.

This feels so Canon with the way everything's written, great job.

Honestly watching Asgore reach the conclusion that they never would've stood a chance against Humans even if he turned into a God and destroy the Souls to keep Monsterkind safe was really sad, because it's not really true, since Asriel wasn't killed because Humans were Stronger, he was killed because he refused to fight back, if he had, he could've killed them all and become even more powerful with their Souls, yet its also a conclusion i could totally see Asgore coming to considering how messed up he is mentally, especially after knowing what Frisk did to the Underground, sorta Paralleling whar Toriel tells you during a Geno Run which is really cool.

I can definitely see potential for seeing variations where you spare Asgore and/or Flowey in the future.

Overall, you cooked. Common Yuti W.

I appreciate how this isn't anything crazy over the top, I feel like this concept could have gone into bad fanfiction territory really fast but you managed to keep it grounded in the actual game really well

Well, this ending doesnt exist in undertale for a reason, but i still think it works well with how the game is. It's... a pretty dissapointing ending, and I like it being that way. "So what happens if I can actually spare sans?" ...he just leaves. "What happens with Asgore?" The same fight on the neutral, only difference being there isn't any challenge behind it (and the lower-pitch music). "What about Flowey?" Well, you _did_ have a way to spare him, but if we go with killing it's... like a neutral route without the Omega Flowey fight. "What happens after you leave the underground?" Again, it's like a neutral route. Yet it's... much more emptier than any other. Sans, as always, talks about the undergrounds state, mocks us a little bit... but that's it. He simply has nothing left to say to you, other than his semi-iconic line: "quit." It's clearly showing that you messed up. You couldn't even finish what you started. The whole route just feels... a lot less meaningful with that. You didn't meet Chara, you didn't destroying the world. Yet, in a way...

*...you did for monsters.*

Edit: bro why do i yap so much i just realized 😭

You know, when it comes down to it, I just really like the dynamic between Sans and the Player. When it comes down to it, Sans knows that we go through all these killing and sparing combinations just to watch and see what happens, no matter how sociopathic things get. Throwing game logic out of the question, "the human" is quite simply a mad god playing with everyone in the underground like toys, and Sans can't stand it. But he is a very controlled person when it comes to his feelings, so when he does let glimpses of this hatred towards "the human" show up, it ends up feeling very contradictory towards his usual character, and manages to create a very jarring feeling as a result. (That is something you managed to nail, by the way.)

I'd like to think of you choose to spare ASGORE.

Flowey steps in and kills him, allowing you to absorb his SOUL.

If flowey is spared, he gets some extra dialogue about how he cant follow you to the surface even if he had the SOULS but he wishes you farewell and to come to visit him sometimes.

As you leave the underground, you turn back once last time

*You tell flowey your name isnt [PlayerName]

As a big Asgore fan, I went in with crazy expectations like "HELL YEAH ASGORE'S GONNA ABSORB THE SOULS" and shit, and I was kinda disappointed at the fight being normal... Then he pulled out the souls, and I started thinking souls Phase 2... Then he destroyed them. Genuinely did not expect that for even a second. Insane plot twist for me personally.

I feel a bit mixed on it, but I can totally see that happening, from his perspective. It's not the best decision, but since when has Asgore been known to make the best decisions? I like the depth there. It's not just the literal best or worst case scenario, it's just some decisions. We can all yell at him "YOU SHOULD'VE ABSORBED THE SOULS AND KICKED ASS", but the fact that he didn't, that he made a bad call based on his own feelings, is very humanizing, and it all fits really well with the Neutral Ending template.

Which, is what this video is. It's not the most exciting thing ever, my initial expectations were a bit overkill, but it feels like a Neutral Ending. Remember, there IS an Aborted Genocide Route ending in Undertale... And it's about on par with this. If there was a way to spare Sans in the game, this is pretty accurate to how it would go down. This is very faithful, and I love it for that.

There's ONLY two things that I'm not really for, and it's Flowey's reaction to being killed, because like he clearly knew it was gonna happen, he was terrified of Frisk/Chara/Whoever you want to blame killing him, so he shouldn't be so hurt and surprised by it, and the other thing is Asgore actually getting a phone call from Alphys.

Undyne throws it out there, but I feel like either she was just talking out of her ass like "ALPHYS WILL ABSOLUTELY DO THIS" and guessing, or whatever, because everything within Undertale itself seems to indicate that Asgore had no idea anything was even going on in the Underground in the Genocide Route, let alone something at the scale of possibly needing to absorb the human souls. So everything around that and the justification for why he wouldn't absorb the souls is a bit iffy to me, but I don't think it ruins the video. You did what you could with the interpretation that Alphys DID call him, and overall the video is still great.

Good stuff.

I love how canon character's personalities actually are. I can imagine them acting this way in real game. Also I love how sans quits the battle without the end of the battle message, according that breaking small rules of the game is his canon thing (having first turn, throwing bones in a menu of battle, judging, etc).

Would be funny if sans spared you only for you to run into a pissed off asgore who just insta kills you

seeing flowey turn into a regular flower fucking hurts after playing uty and crying when flowey says his last line in pacifist

eating the pie in genocide should make his attack and defense drop to 0 after realization.

basically the same as neutral but with a stronger effect, because we killed her and he never got to make up for his actions.

SPOILER ALERT:

I noticed that Asgore doesnt break the Mercy button

Asgore shatters all the souls and becomes suicidal

Theres an option to spare or fight flowey.

Seeing there are two options, I wonder if theres a video that shows what happens if you spare Asgore, Flowey or both of them

The thing that makes me happy about these fan works is the fact that we aren't in 2019 anymore so we actually know how to write Sans now. 😭😭😭

i do enjoy how you stayed true to asgore's character, so he didn't absorb the souls because of his guilt
