It's a constant effort, sometimes multiple times a day. On my fretting hand I keep my thumbnail long enough to use as a nail checker, sliding it over the playing hand nails to find any imperfections. This works well because the nerves on your fretting hand thumb can feel the smallest issues. Also be careful using anything metal, opening cans, cleaning dishes, grabbing things, etc. Also certain fabrics like polyester can cause issues as the fibers are so fine they get caught on the imperfections. Also sleeping at night with microfiber blankets, you will get issues.

Literally the video I needed I have a sponge thing that does what nail paper does so I'ma be using that all the time now lol
