The Reason The US Supports Ukraine Is Not What You Think

Many people believe one thing or another about why the US supports Ukraine. Most come down to a reason that is truly not the primary answer, although there are still several reasons as to why the US really supports Ukraine.

Hey man. I logged on the listen and was prepared to give you a massive "correction"/lesson, as this issue is one in which I am very deeply engaged. Happily I found your presentation both balanced and adult. Much appreciated. I would add the one most critical truth you left out which is the fight Ukraine is waging for its own right to independent self governance/democracy, with Russia as unfortunately the prime (though not sole) adversary rejecting same, is in fact the "world's fight" in that the real battle afoot is between aforementioned democratic rule vs of rule of law. It really is that simple; and Russia doesnt want Ukraine sovereignty to emerge because such will only fuel calls for real change in Russia and an end to Putin's mafia. Cheers

Also, The Budapest memorandum, Ukraine gave up their nukes to secure their land and sovereignty. The US and UK had hand in that, now they need to back up what they promised ✊

Ukraine needs our help and we are late. We can’t afford to now be too late.

The Enforcer is partly right in that we don't want a stronger Russian Navy but the real reason we support Ukraine is that we don't want a stronger Russian anything, Navy, Army or Air Force. A militarily strong Russia poses a direct threat to Europe. If he were able to control a few key countries in Europe (through political or military means) that would in turn be a direct threat to the US which is why we have thousands of troops stationed there. The war in Ukraine presented us a uniquely novel way to diminish or even destroy Russia's ability to threaten Europe, and in turn, the US, with a very low cost relatively speaking. Now of course if Putin was overthrown and Russia became a rules based democracy, then the war would end.

I see the Budapest agreement as the main reason. Ukraine was persuaded to give up the World's Third largest nuclear arsenal in exchange of the USA, Great Britain and Russia guaranteeing it's safety.

Great video! From a purely military-economic strategy it makes sense to help Ukraine. About 50% of the equipment we are sending was made for one sole purpose, that is to fight the (Soviet) Russian Armed Forces. In light of their military collapse, similar to how we outspent them in the arms race during the Cold War, we will prevail to eliminate this scourge once and for all hopefully.

Seeing as the majority of money from USA to Ukraine is lease lend and loans and not a gift, an obvious benefit to USA is a major boost to USA industry. All the weapons, ammo and vehicles etc need to be replaced. Eventually, even when the war is over, Ukraine will need to buy replacements and build stockpiles. This will also benefit USA industry!
