He has an interesting accent. He said he was born in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. His mother is from Samarkand, Uzbekistan and his father is Afghan. Interestingly, he said that he speaks Afghan Farsi instead of calling it Dari. He says they (his family) speak Samarkandi (I am guessing this is a dialect of Uzbek) when they are outside of home, but they speak [Dari] at home.

EDIT: It was wrong of me to make the distinction of Dari vs Persian. The speaker did say they only speak Farsi (Persian) at home and did not say "Afghan Farsi". Tajik, Dari, and Iranian Persian are all registers of Persian and are mutually intelligible for the most part.

Such a beautiful language ❤ I’m in middle school rn and just made a friend who just moved from Afghanistan and she doesn’t speak much English. I hope to learn at least a little Dari to speak with her better!

The "unintelligible" at the end (1:30) is "مسلمانی" means "being a Moslem"

That’s more Tajiki Persian, especially cuz of his Samarkand backstory.

It's exactly Farsi but as though with an accent, so I understood everything he said

How can he be 32 when he moved from Uzbekistan when he was 10 in 2005? Its a mistranslation, Im sure he said 22. Also he is not speaking dari, it's more like Tajik dialect of Persian which is spoken in Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Dari and especially the Kabuli doesn't sound like this.

He sounds kind of northern tajiki accent, which is Samarkand and Bukhara people speaks with the similar accent as well. He doesn’t sound Dari at all to me.
I am from Tajikistan by the way.
I mean every persian speaker can easily understand and talk to him, but it’s just how it is. 🙂

Do many Afghanis look like him? He could easily pass as Southeast Asian!
