As a fan of Genshin Impact's music - I was thrilled to listen and spend time with Yu-Peng Chen's debut album. There's no denying the musical and emotional landscape of this music goes beyond the scope of a video game and it is such a gift for those of us who are fans of Genshin's music to be able to spend time with Chen's newest release.

I may be wrong, but for me the whole album, or at least most of it feels like Yu-Peng Chen's tribute to Genshin. It's like an alternative version of Genshin's ost where YPC having more freedom and given less limitation.

Been waiting for this one!!! During an online interview in his fan WeChat group YPC said <Farewell, My friend> was him dedicating to Genshin, he cried on his last day and wrote the melody. And that Teyvat held many of his precious memories. Had tears to my eyes when I saw this.

Marco!!! IMO, This album can be seen as Dvorak going around the world and exploring Teyvat! The accordion symbolizes Dvorak from Fontaine as he travels and duetting with various musicians around the world!

I especially love the Daughter of of the Sea and the Moon and Rings of the Sky since it combines Liyue/Inazuma and Sumeru with a taste of Fontaine music.

The Circle Dance feels like Dvorak goes to GAA and dancing around Fischl's castle!

I'm glad you are enjoying Yu Peng Chen album! He truly is a music genius!

3:58 The reason why I'm drawn to Genshin after the initial exploration and main quests being done until the next patch is that the soundtracks do sound like what Joe Hisaishi would compose if he experimented more with instruments outside the modern orchestral composition. I wrote this in previous comments that even YPC's older compositions are very akin to Hisaishi's soundscape.
7:00 Something you heard before? Yea, it's pretty much one of the motifs of Hedwig's Theme. I was chuckling to myself when I heard that piece for the first time.
12:10 Technically, Hisaishi did all Ghibli soundtracks *that are directed by Miyazaki*. He also did film composition for almost anything done by Beat Takeshi, something not really talked about in the West. The only time I stumbled upon that was due to his Tokyo Concert album.
13:27 Listening to this piece made me certain that YPC has listened to wind orchestral pieces as well, which I think contributed to his composition style I feel. While a lot of modern orchestral composition seem to rely on the strings to move the music, he either relies on wind instruments or the piano instead.
17:27 When you brought up John Williams, well, I'm pretty sure 7:00 was a direct reference, haha. I think that melodic-driven composition is still alive in Japan (and perhaps East Asia in general), where it has a strong wind band/orchestra presence. When you have an orchestral piece with lots of string instrumentation, it would most likely not get picked up to be transcripted into wind orchestra instrumentation.
21:50 Listening to this reminded me of Disney's Up.
39:30 To me, rather than Studio Ghibli, this reminds me of contemplative scenes in anime, bittersweet scenes, not unlike We Will Be Reunited, but more chilled, and credits song-like.
56:55 Listening to the end reminded me of how Howl's Moving Castle ended its main theme, just that in this case, it didn't resolve but simmer instead.

I really love that heard so many motifs from Genshin or some other pieces he composed before that. Not just melody but also hiding in the harmony, rhythm part or the instrumentation. Just like YPC said by himself(in the CN community, his official fans group chat ), in this whole album he tried to apply all the musical languages that he learned, to say goodbye to the past. That’s just so cool and really looking forward to his next album.

From my interpretation, the accordion has a sound that feels like you are travelling/in a foreign land(esp since YPC is Chinese, the accordion has a distinctly foreign/overseas sound). Therefore it represents a traveller, that is going through a fantastical world, visiting many places and integrating itself within the different cultures and soundscapes.

I feel like Yu Peng Chen birthed Genshin’s atmosphere with his style and current hoyo-mix are just continuing his style

according to his webo. ring of sky is a freeze frame about couple of lover ( sitar and flute) enjoying the moment of a slowly ferris wheel in a sping morning.

they stay close and sharing feeling with each other. the moment will stay forever in their heart.

Ring of the sky made me cry. There really is that sense of loss and longing, but also cherishing those memories you have of someone your heart desperately misses . That yearning for home ..
For me, it reminded me of all my grandparents and older family members I lost as I grew up … the gentle encouragement and love they gave me and my sister as they watched us grow up and learn all the wonders of world around us, but where right there to catch us if we stumbled and letting us know it would be alright .
And then wondering how we would continue without someone who was always there …
I still miss them so fiercely, but I know they are still watching and encouraging me from above .

This is truly a beautiful album from YPC. I can't help but feel like it's a shame that most people will never listen to this album as it is not attached to a big name anymore like Genshin. I'm very happy that YPC has a lot more creative freedom to do what he wants however. Perhaps one day he can once more touch the hearts of the masses the way he did with Genshin's OST through some other medium. As much as I love this solo album, I would love for people outside of his already existing fanbase to be exposed to his music and I don't think many people will listen to this if they weren't already big YPC fans.

1:23:10 Yes! That's spot on!
When I first listened to this piece I instantly associated it with what I was currently living.
I was spending the most beautiful time of my life and at the end of the week I had to say goodbye to friends, yes, but also to moments, vibes, feelings, atmosphere I will never experience again.
And I cried, I cried a lot because this beautiful piece of music expressed what I could never express with words only.
That's why I love music
It simply makes life even more beautiful than what it already is

I started playing Genshin just because I considered it a nice-looking mobile game, but I stayed due to the story and its music. I am glad that Yu-Peng Chen is creating his way now. Also, I discovered this channel thanks to his music, and I´m still here. Always nice to hear your analysis and opinion.

i love the head-scratching parts of Circle Dance - the titles are so full of context for the songs - we keep circling around and unexpectedly restarting as the dance continues...

The first time i've listened to the track Ring of the Sky, the first thing I imagined is the peace in teyvat, almost like a credits cutscene after everything ended. It's that feeling of so many different cultures with the instruments, like if the archons were reunited after a tough battle. Even the title of the song Ring of The Sky could symbolize Celestia (? Maybe I'm stretching it but I definitely pictured all that in my head. I cried like I never did in my life while listening to music. It's so powerful yet so gentle
