How Stopping Zelda’s Credits Creates a Broken World

The ending credits after defeating Ganondorf in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time are quite long. Within them we see the world in its final state before Link is sent back to the past. But what if we explored this world shot by shot and stopped the flow of time? Well we have A LOT to cover, so I hope you enjoy this breakdown of everything the credits have to offer!

Never open magical, free-standing doors folks.

Ganondorf being sealed inside the Sacred Realm was a translation error on Nintendo of America's part. In the original Japanese text, he is instead said to be sealed _beyond_ the Sacred Realm. The white void he's sealed into isn't the Sacred Realm, but someplace else found beyond it. After all, when the Six Sages seal him, those six Sages are already inside the Sacred Realm. It would make no sense for them to seal Ganondorf inside the same place that they themselves are also in. The animation of the sealing shows the six of them opening up a portal to a white void, and said portal is inside the Sacred Realm with them. The portal leads to someplace else "beyond" the Sacred Realm, not to the very same realm that the six are already within. Nintendo of America goofed on that translation and have never corrected it since.

Stabbing Ganon in the face was 100% self defense. Link only got convicted purely because of character evidence (stealing rupees, horse theft, breaking and entering, harming farm animals) and since he refused to answer any questions in the stand.

I kinda cracked up when you interrupted the Master Sword cutscene to casually pull the sword again and re-ruin the future and it actively played the Ganondorf cutscene. You got the child timeline, the adult timeline, the fallen hero timeline, and now the "did you really just do that, you IDIOT" timeline.

The ending cutscene with Zelda in the sky is actually really IN the hyrule field map. All the geometry and actors are just turned off. So when you die in it, it's just spawning you back in the same map.

Fun fact: The cutscene where Link gives the ocarina to Zelda is actually in Hyrule Field with the textures unloaded.

3:39 This is because the cutscene with Zelda already takes place in Hyrule Field. You are already there
Just that specific cutscene, early on, sets a flag to tell the terrain to not draw (aka. tell it to be invisible) So all you see is the skybox.

When you void warp or use sun's song, it just reloads the map, but not in the cutscene, so it doesn't turn off the terrain as the instruction doesn't get sent.

With the pactice ROM hack (GZ, made by Glankk I think), you can actually turn the terrain drawing back on without reloading the map, and you will see you are indeed in Hyrule Field.
ZFG showed this off once.

Damn, give Link a break, He's probably confused after getting arrested by the guards and getting teleported into weird places, playing the ocarina next to a limp Ganon which causes him to warp through time and space.

Link's brain is fried at this point, because of how much breaking reality messes him up

Your Legend Of Zelda videos always brings back so much nostalgia for me. Ever since I was a child my father would teach he how to play Ocarina Of Time to the point where I could beat the game within hours. He passed from cancer in 2019 and ever since then I've appreciated this game more than ever and seeing how so many people still love this game makes me happy. Thank you.

a paradox you may have overlooked is that future link teaches the windmill guy the song of storms, so he can teach it to past link.

Maybe giant gorons dancing like that, creating earthquakes.. explains how hyrule's map changes so radically from game to game. Every time the giant gorons have a dance party the map gets reset

If you have tools for changing the way you view collission in game, you will actually find that the infinite void that link and zelda talk in is actually Hyrule field with all textures unloaded

That door was just standing there “menacingly”.

After all these years I never ever noticed young link's triforce on his hand at that ending cut.

Man seeing all there black and white endless voids, broken doors, lack of geometry, incorrect portal values, makes me think being trapped inside a video game as a sentient conscious being would be the most terrifying, eldritch horror nightmare.

I love the idea of going through this grand adventure only to immediately release Ganon the second he gets sealed by taking the sword out of the pedestal 🤣

Seeing Swanky break games with his funny experiments always manages to make my day. ^^

I love this stuff. Keep it up
N64 games are so funky and broken when you look past the curtains, they really used so many tricks to keep the illusion together. I had no idea the B&W part at the very end was an actual part of the game, but I suppose it makes sense now that I think about it. Wonder how many "weird maps" there are in total anyway

Random thought
Since you were able to spawn Link, have him ride a horse giving control of that horse, and then delete Link, allowing you to control two horses at once
I wonder if this is repeatable allowing you to control an army of horses
