Jerry Hayes - Rollin with the flow (His best known)

In memory of Jerry Hayes who died January 23. 2007 in the age of 61.

I was a friend of jerry's and I was the second person to hear it after he wrote it! His Dad had passed away, but his Mom was still alive and he played it for her. Then I happened to be over at his folks place on Emma Ave. and he ask me to tell him what I thought that this song that he had just wrote would do, after he played it for me on the Gibson Everly guitar that Don Everly gave to to him! I told him that I didn't know whether it was going to be on the A or the B side but it was going to be # 1! It was on the B side of "Devil in the Bottle" that T.G. Shepherd recorded! Then a year later Charlie Rich recorded it and the rest is history! Jerry told me that if it did what I said it would do, he would make me his music consultant! I moved off and he moved on to greater things like "Who's Cheatin Who"! But Jerry was a good friend and will always be be missed!

I talked with June Hayes (Jerry's wife) yesterday and she said Jerry wrote Rollin with the flow when he was still living in Ark. and she still gets checks for the song. It is a lie that Jerry stole this song. Why would you lie about Jerry, is it because he is dead and cannot speak for himself. Shame on

It's a tragedy that Jerry Hayes is best know for this song as he did not write it. The original writer and recorder of this song in the early 70's was Carrol Quade. Jerry was involved in the recording studio and illegally signed his name as the writer.

The newer releases by Mark Chestnut show Quade as the proper writer and he has been receiving all royalty checks since then.
