Imagine an audience in 1956, seeing this. Must have been absolutely stunning.

“The Lord of Hosts will do battle for us!”

Always gives me chills.

This is without a doubt still one of the best special effects in film history and not using computers.

I don't care what faith or lack thereof someone claims. This is a cinematic masterpiece that cannot be touched.

I’m 22 and my dad showed me this movie because he had watched it as a kid on a school field trip. I may have grown up in the CGI age but the majesty and grandeur of this execution moves me more than most CGI. Especially since they really did have a gigantic group of people; no manipulation of camera angles. And the way Cecil gave us time to absorb it all by showing everyone walking through the sea and looking around in awe; it’s perfect. I also love the performance of Moses here. He’s strong and firm, total faith in God that inspires me as a Christian. The line “The Lord of Hosts will do battle for us” is unbelievably moving.

I am 72 now and still remember being taken by my parents to see this in our local Odeon cinema when I was about 4 years old. It was quite an event, I can tell you. Quite apart from the spectacular visuals I seem to remember that there was a form of surround sound too at certain points. In the brick making scenes there was the sound of whips and people crying out all around. The voice of God was all around and the Red Sea scene had water noises all around. They really spared no expense !

I will never forget the first time I watched this scene (and the whole movie) in amazement and awe, I was about 15 or 16. Now I am 64 and never tire of watching it. I have purchased just about every video format and release of this movie. The best way to watch it at home is with Big 4K TV and a 4K Player and disk. Its music is worth listening to by itself.

I'm 59 now, but I was only 11 when I first saw this sequence and I can still remember wiping away my tears.

Best line of the movie is the simplest...When Ramses returns to Egypt.
"His God... IS God"

I was Born in 1948z In 1956 I saw it with my parents. Over the next 4 years I saw it 4 more times. My favorite move and my favorite actor Charleston Heston as Moses.

The 1956 version of "The Ten Commandments" is Cecil B. DeMille's masterpiece! Hollywood will never see a showman like Cecile B. DeMille!

Absolutely stunning. I was blessed to see this on the big screen as a child, and I'll never forget it (especially the burning bush). This film is still an epic masterpiece. 💥✝️📖
