Bellringing at Glaston, Uppingham and Oakham, Rutland

Three contrasting Rutland rings, including both rings of eight in the county. At Glaston the tenor rope snapped after ringing up, and very sadly thieves had stolen lead from the roof. But the bells make a decent light six. Uppingham are a very old-fashioned but easy-going octave, not to everyone's taste but they have quite an impressive growl to them inside. Lastly, Oakham, a glorious Gillett & Johnston ring which were a huge pleasure to visit and I'd love to go back. Sorry for the poor view, the bells probably sounded best (if extremely loud and echoey) in the staircase, it was pouring down outside and I then found myself shut out of the ringing chamber with time running out. When I go for my peal or quarter I'll get a better video!

Fantastic. It would be hard to imagine life without the bell ringers

I remember ringing for a wedding at Glaston. Weird experience as had to be escorted through the church with the congregation watching. Talking to the vicar and local tower contact and he said it would be nice to have 2 more trebles at Glaston. Had a look upstairs and they could just about be rung from the clock chamber.

I used to live in Glaston and regularly attended church there every Sunday as a teenager. I'd always wondered what the bells sounded like as they are never rung for service.
