This is a Motormouth couple car review of the 2022 Mazda CX30 turbo subcompact crossover. What’s new for 2022? In Canada, Mazda has added the Advanced Visibility Package to give you extra features on the lower GS trim, there are more colour options including, Platinum Quartz Metallic available on the GS and GT models and the Garnet Red interior is available on the GT model. All Mazda CX-30 models now come with standard AWD. In the US, the new Platinum Quartz exterior colour is also available and a Carbon Edition trim has been added with a Polymetal Grey exterior and red interior. Some standard features include an 8.8” touchscreen, 7” LCD meter display, Apple Carplay and Android Auto, 8-speaker audio system, available Bose system, black cloth upholstery, available leatherette and leather, heated front seats, manual driver and passenger seats, available power driver seat and a temporary spare tire. The Mazda CX-30 has an available power liftgate but does not have ventilated front seats or heated rear seats available on any trim. Our test model has the more powerful engine, a 2.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder with 227 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque on regular fuel. You get a bit of a bump in power if you use premium, 250 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque. There is also a non-turbo Mazda Cx-30 option, a 2.5L 4-cylinder with 186 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque and in Canada the base trim comes standard with a 2L 4-cylinder, 155 horsepower and 150 lb-ft of torque. This engine is no longer available in the US. In Canada, the CX-30 starts at $26,350 CAD, GS $29,350 CAD, GT $34,750 CAD Turbo GT $37,950 CAD. Price as tested $40,300 CAD In the US, the CX030 starts at $22,500 USD, Select $24,900 USD, Preferred $27,950 USD, Carbon Edition $28,590 USD, Premium $30,360 USD, 2.5 Turbo $30,500 USD Turbo Premium $33,100 USD, Turbo Premium Plus $34,700 USD.

A CX-30 Turbo Premium is exactly what I want. Don't need the extra space or backseat room. Don't like touch screens in cars. Don't want a CVT. The cladding is fine. Perfect for me. Thanks for the review.

Best part of all these videos is Andrea smiling when accelerating. 🤣 👍

I recently bought the CX30 Carbon Edition and LOVE the car. Red Leather interior, great handling, a blast to drive.

Regarding the black plastic pieces around the wheels and bottom, I honestly love it! Not from an esthetic perspective but for durability. We have harsh winters with lot of salt and little rocks in Canada. I think those are doing a great job protecting the paint around the edgers and delay the risk of getting rust all over.

Other manufacturers can learn from Mazda. Great driving dynamics, power, good road handling and maintaining traditional features such as the buttons and traditional shifter. This is what a car should be and used to be. True drivers car. Above all no CVT. GOOD JOB 👏 I own one now. I love it.

The main thing I love about Mazda vehicles is they stuck with "the good ol days" of auto making. For example: All Mazda's have a spare tire (MOST new cars dont, especially EV's!), all Mazda's have a real torque converting transmission (MOST new cars have CVT "transmission" - sad!), the CX-30 comes standard with AWD (THANK YOU MAZDA!!), and interior comfort/luxe is standard for all. Well done Mazda.

Thanks for the candid presentation/review. I always like the Mazda simply because they all have conventional automatic transmission. THe downside of the Mazda fleet is the relatively poor gas mileage.

I had a CX-30 rental while my car was in the body shop. Overall, I liked it with the exception of the fuel economy and the small gas tank had me spending a lot of time at the gas station.

Excellent video! I don’t need the extra space of the CX-5. I am currently driving a CX-30 that I just recently rented and I love it! I love the power and the torque that it delivers and also the handling. I’m in the market for a new vehicle and I’m definitely considering the CX-30.

Great review, you made me want a CX-30! Glad to see Mazda adding turbos.
Comparing it to the VW, you didn’t mention reliability, where I’m guessing the Mazda is much better.

A fun and fantastic review. Complete and thorough and gives me the feeling I have been educated. Keep up the good work, and the fun, too!

enjoying my CX-30 after two years ownership. It's the GS model with the regular 2.5L and gets impressive fuel economy. Very impressed with the dial use of the infotainment system, so easy to use but a bit of a learning curve, but you can operate it with feel without having to look. Like the large cladding, drives great, handles great, impressive power from the 2.5L engine. The 6 spd auto is very smooth and turns over quite slow rpm (about 1800 at 100 kmph). The smaller interior compared to some of the competition does bother me as the package works fine for my use and the interior finish was way above the competition.

I think that the more off road trims should have the plastic body cladding and the regular trims should be painted

Best in class for me, as well…there’s no replacement for displacement and STILL lookin’ good. Imagine a Mazdaspeed version with wide body cladding, beefier wheels and suspension, an upgraded exhaust system, and 300Hp tune…a mini Porsche Macan.😍 I wish there was a manual version, too!😩😢

The torsion beam rear suspension is an oldy but a goody. It provides a very secure feel but still allowing enough "flex" to smooth out most bumps on most paved roads. My previous two cars had this system and it worked just fine. It's also cheaper to produce and very reliable.
Oh and the cladding is not a bad thing, Mazda may have gone a bit over board in this case though(not terrible), in my humble opinion.
Great vids, you two.

I have a 2022 Mazda turbo premium. 10, 700 miles and is still fun to commute in. The turbo just ads that fun factor. This is a winner. I would recommend to test drive. As far as the space, you must remember this is a compact SUV. Not made for families. Go the CX5 is you need room for kids/dogs...

And great review as always! I think Mazda is doing a fantastic job.
Just never wins on interior space.

I got one it handles like it's on rails. Im surprised how well it handles because alot of older suv's had tons of body roll but the cx-30 doesn't have much. But mazda seems to have figured out how to make an suv that handle like a sedan and be more practical in the snow.
