Correction: The 2270 DOES state it can handle 4 ohm speakers.

I bought my 2275 at a garage sale 25 years ago for $5. The owner said one channel was out. Took it home and just played with the switches and when I touched the tape monitor button it sprang to life. Had it reconditioned about ten years ago. My favorite receiver.

This is a fantastic sounding vintage receiver. It outshines pretty much everything else in my vintage collection (Sansui, Pioneer, Yamaha, etc). No other solid state receiver I own has quite the 'punch' or the fat bass or the brilliant highs that this beautiful receiver has. It sounds more 'alive' than my other receivers. Whatever marantz did with this receiver, they nailed it, IMO. I honestly think this unit is one of the finest examples of vintage audio quality the 70's had to offer. I've owned mine since 2010. Only issue now is the power switch/relays. It can take up to 2 minutes to power on. Once it powers on there are no issues. I may have to take it back to the repair shop soon. But this is one receiver I certainly don't mind investing money on.

That Marantz 2275 looks gorgeous. I have a Marantz 2270 and three other Marantz units and they are wonderful and whenever I play music using my Marantz 2270, it brings a smile to my face while not only enjoying the sound quality, but also admiring the distinctive design aesthetic of vintage Marantz receivers. :)

I have one! Bought it in 1975 and still have it to this day. Still works beautifully and sounds great. Cosmetically it is near perfect. Can’t believe it made it through college and many moves without suffering damage. I almost sold it once in the 80’s. Glad I didn’t!

I have a 2275 bought some 20 years ago at a flea market, paid 15 USD. :-) Playing almost daily and working perfect with a wonderful sound. It will stay with me until the end. Greetings from Sweden!

I'm still using my 2238 that I bought when I was 15. It took me forever to save up for it but it was worth all the hours working on various local farms.

On the capability to drive 4 Ohm loads and power rating. The power rating of Marantz units is based on both channels driven to rated output for 24 hours without over heating or failure. My experience is that typically the units will produce 10 to 15 percent more power than the factory rating at or lower than the specified distortion. As for 4 ohm loads I have never seen that to be an issue, but I do have to say I have not had a 2270/75 on my test bench. a Third reason why the Marantz gear is sought-after it there reliability and life span.

I have Marantz 2275 multi voltage European model. I like its modular design inside and beautiful sound it makes. Furthermore, I have also 2010, 2230, 2245, 2270, 2252, 4270 & 2x4400. The biggest surprise to my ears was tiny 2010 - what a great sound from a small package...I am also big Sansui fan, and it is nice to compare sweet Marantz sound and precise Sansui one. Just trying to lay my hands on AU-111 which may end my collecting passion!

If memory serves me, Saul Marantz started building pre-amps in his Queens, NY garage. Built mostly for friends, his little business grew to what we know it. I have a great review piece on him published in a 1979 issue of Complete Buyers Guide to Stereo/Hifi Equipment. Personally, I did own, for a time, a Marantz 2252B and can only fault it's FM capabilities. As for spinning discs or CD's the 2252B could easily reach lease breaking levels with my EPI-180 speakers. These upper level Marantz receivers were "feature laden" for sure and were underrated as to their true output capabilities. Loved that Marantz industrial look. Remember the Marantz ad where the receiver was in a fire and still worked?

I owned a 2220 as my first receiver when I was 16 in 1976. I used my paper route and Caddy money to buy it.

This receiver lasted through high school, college and the first few years of my marriage, working full time and moving out to our new condo in the Suburbs of Chicago. I had such great memories of listening to my Koss Headphones through my Marantz 2220 receiver late at night.

Then in around 1987, my power switch finally broke and unfortunately I threw it away in my condo outdoor dumpster. In those days before the internet, there was very little info on how to repair.

I then bought a new black faced Marantz digital in 1987. It was so disappointing. I couldn’t believe how poorly the quality along with how feather light their machines had become.

Then about 5 months ago I finally found a mint Marantz from that same era of a 2238 that I now love and cherish. I’m now fully retired and I’m finding vintage stereo an interesting hobby. I was able to right my wrongs of throwing out my 2220!

Great video. I have a 2220b and a 2250b. They both sound great. I really love the 2250b. I picked it up at an estate sale. It has the wood case and it also came with the paperwork and manual. I will never sell it.

In the mid seventies, when I was in the Air Force, it seemed like everyone had excellent stereo equipment. I was able to see and hear top end equipment from all of the big name brands. (I also quickly learned how cheap the equipment was to members of the military: the AAFES catalog).

I had reached the conclusion that I did not want Bose 901s (I’ve never liked their sound), and I did not want a Marantz receiver. The technical reason why I didn’t want a Marantz receiver: it didn’t have a huge volume knob like other brands.

To this day I’m still in awe at my 1977 Marantz 2330, the Cadillac of receivers. I own other receivers and separate components, but as great as they sound they don’t bring the aesthetics like the Marantz. Not to mention, you could restart the earths rotation with a 2330.

I’m still not a Bose fan, but I got used to the small volume knob on my Marantz receiver.

Thanks for the great content!

I have a Marantz 2275 that I bought new in the 70s and it still works well. It has a couple of lights that are out on the face. But I have loved it.

I picked up a 2250 about a year ago and put against my then current receiver what a big difference. This is my receiver for going into retirement.

I just got my 2275 a moth ago. I love it! There is something about the sound, that I am unable to pinpoint. But compared to my much newer Marantz SR 7400. I would say that the sound is more crisp. A little more openness to it. But I also have a though on why. Because this is the first time in many many years that I have sat down to really listen. And even sub par speakers that I am restauring gets very different attention and I really listen. Insted of just putting on some music. Love it!
