This is tradition in New Orleans, every Monday, red beans, and rice! Every store every restaurant every corner store will carry this!

This dish was traditionally a Monday dish in our household. See Monday was laundry day, and a pot of red beans could cook pretty much all day while the household chores were done. As for a Louisiana dish, I think you definitely left out the hot sauce.

Many years ago, some neighbors moved into my area from New Orleans. The lady taught me how to make red beans and rice. Lucky for me. So delicious!

You can package your herbs in cheesecloth. I have used a smoked ham hock or shank, and smoked turkey tails. I serve it with a side dish of collards, savory cornbread to soak in the collard pot liquor. 😊

If you just let the meat simmer in the beans for another hour they would be creamy without you mushing them…also a sprinkle of gumbo file adds lots of flavor. Red beans potato salad and fried chicken every Monday born and raised in New Orleans

I first had this when I went away to military school, 1992, in the 11th grade. It was often served for lunch, every now and then for dinner. It is still one of the most comforting foods I've ever eaten.

I'm from Florida and when I cook red beans and rice i sometimes add a can of medium rotel and I do not cook sweet cornbread I make homemade and its not sweet but it's delicious!

I recognized your olive oil. Produced in California. My son is a project manager for a company that specializes in food product welding. He did the expansion in that factory. He brought that olive oil home for the fam. I love the no mess spout!!
