Ukraine claims to down £38m Russian SU-30 fighter jet based in Crimea

Ukraine has claimed to shoot down a Russian jet in an operation over the Black Sea, Kyiv has said.

The SU-30 fighter jet has an estimated price tag of around $50 million (£38 million), local media reported.

The jet was reportedly shot down by a portable air defence system and belonged to a regiment based at the Saky air base in Crimea.

I don't get journalists obsession with the cost if military equipment. Does the cost excite them or do they think it excites thier viewers. What matters in human terms is the life of the pilot or the lives of the people the pilot won't kill. What matters in military terms is the resulting change in military capability. Cost is very much a secondary consideration.

Permission to hit Russian territory would increase the West's involvement in the conflict in Ukraine and entail a reaction from Moscow, Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in an interview with the daily Izvestia.

"There is no need to exaggerate. But, naturally, this raises significantly the degree of the collective West’s involvement in this war around Ukraine. Of course, this will entail a corresponding reaction from Russia, " Peskov warned, commenting on the speculations that the West might make a positive decision on the issue of letting the Ukrainian military use its weapons for strikes deep into Russia.

So maybe 2 or even 3 F16 downed is equally 1 Su-30 downed, following Russia media's logic.
