Ryobi Hammer Drill (Corded) D620H Review & Concrete Test

In this video I review and put the Ryobi D620H Hammer Drill through a rigorous 6 month test. I know it seems crazy that anybody would spend this much time reviewing a hammer drill but I love this tool. For the low price I think this is the best hammer drill in the lower price range. It performs every bit as good as my Dewal hammer drill and my Ridgid R861162SB hammer drill. Of course my secret tip to drilling through concrete and granite is using my Bosch Bulldog HCFC2087 1/2 inch x 18 inch concrete bit. The thing is a monster and drills through thick brick and block wall and mortar quickly and easily. My other secret tip is I use a corded hammer drill. I use a corded Ryobi hammer drill because I run the drill all day and need the power on demand and have no time for changing and charging batteries all day. I highly recommend this drill. I do professional demolition and I would buy another one if I had to do it over again. Keep in mind this review is unbiased because I burned out my Ryobi sawzall on one job and was furious. Anyway I hope you find this D620H review and 6 month later test to be helpful. If you have any questions please let me know and subscribe so I can make more free tool review videos. Thanks for watching!

After watching this review, I bought this drill and a Bosch bit. It went through the concrete pool surround like it was wood. I'm happy with this drill and the review.

Thank you for emphasizing the switch setting on this. I was also confused about the switch position for hammer or drill. Should have an arrow pointing to what function it is on.

Good video! most important is the fact that you showed the drill in use. Some other videos reviewed but did not show it in use. please. If you have more tools videos please post.

I just watched a video that literally gave a review of the drill with it sitting unplugged on the table the whole time, so thank you for putting it to the test and showing me what the switches are for. I got this in 2018 and misplaced the instructions and I don't know anything about drills.

Several years back, I was not at all impressed with Ryobi power tools. Given that, I was recently in dire need of some extra tools for some work I was doing, and after doing some quick cost/benefit analysis, decided to give Ryobi another shot. At the price, even if they only made it through one job I was still ahead. One of the tools I purchased was the corded 5/8 hammer drill; I have been impressed with the improvements Ryobi has made, including durability. This thing has put I don't know how many holes into concrete and is still going strong. I give this item a big thumbs up, even if you're a contractor. Oh, and thanks for such a wonderful review.

Thank you! I literally came looking just to find out which way the hammer drill switch needed to be set! The manual was no help at all xD

I loved how you went over all the buttons. Wished you had gone over how to put a bit on it and manually tighten it with the wrench. I am first time using this tool....still trying to find a video on how to work it all.

Thank you for showing that you used an SDS plus bit. I wasn't sure it my SDS plus bit would fit. Thought the home Depot person gave me the wrong one!!

so the hammer picture should be showing to be in hammer mode? Not switch covering hammer?

I just bought one due to be delivered in a few days. Re: the keyed chuck, I've read reviews that it slips on round bits. Not a surprise, I have a more expensive drill and an impact drill makes it hard for any chuck to hold. Few know how to properly use things. A chuck with a key will hold better than a hand tighten chuck.
For best hold, there are three holes in the chuck for the key. Use at least 2 best 3 to tighten the chuck.
Far as drilling granite and using the bit for 6 months. You can sharpen the bit. Surely it is long past due.
A bit surprised it would/could drill granite.

Battery tools SUCK. I bought a DeWalt 9 tool set. There was a rep at HD and I was given as a gift a 2 pack of 18 volt XRP batteries AND a dual charger., plus another 2 pack of batteries at a great discount. I walked out of the store with enough tools to start a business at a great great deal. It was a happy day. I had 9 tools, 6 batteries, and the ability to charge 3 batteries at a time.

But....

I quickly learned I didn't have near enough batteries or charging ability. Each tool needs its own battery so you don't have to keep swapping them around. Each tool should also have a backup battery. That means I had a DOZEN batteries to buy if I wanted to have a comfortable amount of power available. Even then, if you are using a battery tool nonstop, like a sander or grinder, you get about 15 minutes before your battery is dead, and it'll be too hot to be able to charge right away.

You constantly need more juice.

Cords might be a bit of a pain, but 120 volts AC can go nonstop, all day, full power. Just be careful not to trip over the cords, and take care when wrapping up so the cord doesn't get all cracked and broken right where the cord goes into the tool. Not too tough.

You are 100% correct. Battery powered tools are not good enough for professional use. I use my Dewalt cordless tools around the house for small jobs and it's great, but when you've got work to get done, you need nonstop power.
