the best skunk spray remedy I have ever found, is to use a container of hydrogen peroxide, half a cup of baking soda, and a tablespoon of dish washing liquid. works like a charm.

Skunks remind me of cats in a way. I live in a very rural area in Maine and one night, I had food out for a neighborhood stray cat and when dusk fell, I went out to look for one of my cats and found a skunk eating the food. Before I could even think about what was happening, my cat walked up and started eating too. I was so nervous I didn't know what to do. So I watched. They either didn't realize they weren't the same species or they just didn't care but they both sat there well behaved and ate and the skunk just walked away when done. I started breathing again at that point lol. I was so afraid it would spray before my cat got in the house. Skunks can't see very well and it was dark but I assumed they would smell each other. They just didn't seem to mind each other at all and I was very surprised. I can't believe the skunk didn't get spooked and spray.

Skunks are beautiful! They can only spray 1 time. It takes up to 7 days for them to "refill" their spray sack. So they will only spray when under severe threat, or if you walk upon a young skunk.

Skunks make excellent pets. My sister had one when I was a kid and he was the sweetest little animal. He’d climb up in your lap, put his little paws on your cheeks and give you kisses all over your face. He was so adorable!! I’d have one now but Texas made it illegal to own them. They really are sweet little creatures.

Yeah, they do stink. But they are so sweet when you get to raise a baby. I had the chance once and it was so amazing to get to understand them.

Would never consider them "disgusting"..They are Beautiful Critters who have a defense mechanism for a reason..Mostly nonaggressive unless startled or threatened..We gladly feed them as living in populated areas they have a hard time of it .

As a teen I was riding my horse at dawn on a trail fairly close to the house. My dog was in front of us, and we got sprayed. My dog got the worst of it but it was on the horse and me too. When you are that close it make me nauseous. My dog was vomiting and trying to rub her eyes. Back at the house mom made me strip at the back door and shower in the basement. And shower and shower and shower. It also smelled like some kind of fuel.

A young skunk got separated from his mother during roadwork in my neighborhood. I fed him for a couple days, while trying to find a rehabber for skunks. When we connected, I caught the little guy. He did not spray either of us, or my car. It was as if he knew we were helping him.
