Ok so here's the concept I'm gonna throw out based on this

Aliens did build the pyramids but for whatever reason the ancient Egyptians wound up acquiring some of their technology. Somehow managing to decipher it enough to reproduce it and become a high tech industrial power very early on.
Despite this Egypt remained relatively isolationist and focused around the Nile. Only really whipping out its high tech military power to repel invasions by the Nubians, Romans and later on the Arabs (Which has the side effect of actual ethnic Egyptians remaining the majority within Egypt)
One of the big overall cultural shifts from this was that mummification was replaced with cyberisation. Elderly and dying Egyptians of sufficient wealth/standing have their dying biological bodies replaced with artificial ones, perhaps this also includes digitisation of the consciousness.
The world at large coveted the mechanical marvels of Egypt but the Egyptians understood it as the source of their power and wealth, thus refusing to share.
So the rest of the world mostly progressed as it has technologically. The current of history in general just moving around the obstruction that Egypt presents.

Egyptian society is starting to strain under the weight of generations of cyberised individuals, the eternal pharaohs as the mortal populace has dubbed them (though most were not of that sort of rank). There's too many of them and not enough for them to do.
This large surplus of highly competent and power/status hungry individuals has created a problem for Egyptian society. Rumours within the palace halls abound that one of these eternal pharaohs conspires against the throne (held by the one who could truly be called the eternal pharaoh) that he has sold the secrets of their technology to foreigners.
Now it falls to an eternal pharaoh who has mostly abandoned the court and high society to find this traitor and bring him to justice before dangerous world ending weapons technology is placed in hands inclined to use it. His centuries long self imposed exile from high society making him the only one above suspicion.
Joined by a sheltered mortal who has never left the pharaohs court, these two must navigate this high tech bronze age civilisation as they desperately seek to prevent a war that would obliterate not only the land of the nile, but the entire world.

This just gave me so much joy. Ever since i read Wilbur Smith's ancient Egyptian novels back in high school, I've often daydreamt of an Egypt that was never invaded, but grew to be a superpower empire with its culture mostly undiluted. This is the most amazing thing I've ever seen in all my life. I'm completely blown away
