Clay has mastered the art of space. He leaves space, which let's the music breathe, but also lets his tasty fills stand out. Great addition to the band.

What I love about Polyphia is that each member is a complete monster on the instrument they play and together they are just phenomenal.

I went to high school with Clay. He was in the Drum line and was amazing. Also I repember in Spanish class he always had his drum sticks and this weird rubber pad that he would practice on. So much so the teacher has to take it away. I guess what I'm trying to say is that if you want to be good at something, practice, practice, practice!

i swear...Clay has mastered the art of doing a ton while not doing too much at the same time.

Clay is such a great drummer. His accuracy with the mix of trap beats with jazzy accents is just unlike anyone else in the rock side of music right now.

Clay is the one drummer that I just can't predict anything he's about to do. His parts are simple yet ridiculously complicated at the same time

I know other bands do it too, but I really love the way Polyphia treat the drums as another instrument and not just as a timekeeping device

As a guitarist i knew how talented of a drummer he was but did not fully appreciate his ARTISTRY until seeing his drum playthrough of this song. He riffs on those drums like a stringed instrument. Getting every tone and texture out of each piece of his kit. That's beyond technical proficiency. That's beyond drumming.

I saw in another reaction that Clay was in a marching band, which is why he is so tight and clean with his playing. They also stated that he definitely pulled some of the rolls from the marching band into this, especially with the high hats and the ride.

Clay is my absolute favorite drummer because how he stops, getting on again, stops, and riding the train again is so unique and sounds so instantly classic. I think he is one of the best in the world right now.

Yea he’s really good. When they played at SoWhat festival in Texas, I guess his in-ears went out. So his drum tech who could hear the tracks and click through his in-ears tapped his leg through the whole show so Clay wouldn’t go off. What I read about this that was even more impressive, assuming it’s true, is he played a good portion of one of their songs without click before he was able to make anyone aware but didn’t miss a beat. That’s solid playing right there!

I think the best part of this, isn't the playing. It's the skill and creativity it takes to actually compose a track like this

Genre: Groovy Math Rock

I don’t know the defy being placed into any genre so what kind of made something up that vaguely fits

I like to call Polyphia "Inter-dimensional Elevator Music".

This song is a major show of his marching band experience. The whole drum solo looked like he was paying a set of tenors from the drum line lol.

I play no musical instruments and this kicks ass.

Legato in drums. Lol 😆 Such an amazing drummer. His play style is so different, I can only explain it as playing the drums like a guitar.

So someone else has said it already but just wanted to reinforce the idea that Clay is playing Trap beats with jazz inspiration. The guitar you are right, there is certainly djent elements a la Animals as Leaders. It's also got a low fi feeling about it, which makes you want to play this track at midnight while cruising down the highway. I really liked the electronic elements, especially the "glitch" at about a third of the song in.

There is a sound I make when a Drummer does something amazing. It's kinda like "pluh" but with more disbelief. That video was pluhcentral!
