Today on Extra Throttle House, Thomas and James check out the all new Hyundai Ioniq 6 in its “Ultimate Trim.” Costing 64,689 CAD (57,215 USD), this Hyundai aims to disrupt the EV Sedan market - but its stiffest competition comes from within its own brand. With similar pricing and range to the Ioniq 5, the guys answer the age old question - should 5 be afraid of 6? And what will happen when the 7 comes to market in the coming months? Is Hyundai just cannibalizing itself within its own nomenclature? Watch - SUBSCRIBE!

This car reminds me so much of the Citroen DS and CX. It's weird for all the right reasons and I adore it. Love that Hyundai/Kia have the balls to release the weird stuff.

I like how the 6 is a car. We need more cars.

I think that if you like the look and you don't need the extra space, the Ioniq 6 is a good purchase for the lower trim given the extra range.

The biggest advantage over the ioniq 5 is the improved efficiency (& range). That's why some will buy this over that, not because there's a little spec on the spec sheet that they really need 😉

Just casually dropping this an hour to midnight?!?

The real problem with the Ioniq 6 are the trims. The good options and features are stuck behind the trim with the bigger wheels, which takes away the great range, which was the whole justification for the I6's design in the first place.

Even though I’m not the biggest fan of the design, it’s pretty amazing the unique designs Kia and Hyundai come up with

Seeing James flip out in the back seat made me laugh so hard😂

That iPhone metaphor made really good sense for someone like me considering EVs as a first car (and not just the Ioniq lineup, but for all "beginner's" EV as well). Good job, TH!

Whenever i see these cars i always think of the first gen saab 9-3 and last gen saab 900 hatchbacks

I imagine if saab still existed .

I just leased the 6 SEL AWD and absolutely love it. I have a Mustang and a Mazda CX-5, and the Ionic kicks the ass of both of them, I don’t know wtf these guys a talking about. I don’t use the lane keeping because I don’t like the car deciding where in the lane I drive. I don’t really like SUVs so I haven’t even considered the 5, (the wife chose the Mazda) the only thing I like about the Mazda is the doors lock when you walk away. Tbh there is a lot of bells and whistles I don’t need, the 318 mile range is more than I need and better than any car I’ve ever owned. More over its improving my health, I’m getting up earlier, do my daily walk, which I’ve been avoiding, while it charges (I bought it for work and drive up to 150 miles a day)

It jumps off the line and hits 100 mph before you know it. Again better than both my other cars. With the write offs and the free 2 years of charge it cost me less than the gas I was using. Plus the Mustang is getting old and was starting to rack up repairs. The 6 also comes with 2yrs free maintenance. Based on my early experience I’m completely sold on electric, have been waiting years for electric to happen anyway. I’m not disappointed.

Yeah, I really, REALLY want an Ionic 6. I'm so glad we are getting a sedan on this platform. I'm tired of SUV/Crossovers in all new EV's.

The 5 prioritizes space and retro style and the 6 prioritizes range and modern styling.

I think the discourse over whether the ioniq 6 or 5 is better for someone needs to also account for the range. The ioniq 6 (in base long range rwd form especially) gets much better range which could be a deal-maker for a person

If the 5 had that center console, I’d totally grab one. But as it is I’m hopefully getting my HI6 this weekend!
