Ariel Motor Company has revealed the second generation of its off-road powerhouse, the Nomad 2. Known for its raw and rugged design, the Nomad 2 retains its mechanical aesthetics while introducing significant improvements and a new powertrain sourced from the Ford Focus ST. This latest model promises an exhilarating off-road experience with enhanced performance and advanced features.

At the heart of the Nomad 2 is a turbocharged 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine from the Ford Focus ST, delivering an impressive 305 horsepower and 382 lb-ft of torque. This new engine setup replaces the Honda-sourced powertrain used in the original Nomad, marking a significant upgrade in power and performance. The engine benefits from Ariel-specific ECU mapping with three selectable power settings, making it more powerful than its predecessor but slightly less potent than the ultra-limited Nomad R.

The mid-mounted engine features a new air intake system, a larger radiator, and dual air filtration to protect the intercooler from off-road debris. With a 40 percent increase in fuel capacity, the Nomad 2 can now hold 18.5 gallons of gasoline, offering a driving range of over 550 miles on a full tank. Power is sent to the rear wheels through either a six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed Quaife sequential gearbox, both assisted by a limited-slip differential. The Nomad 2 can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 134 mph, delivering thrilling performance on and off the road.

The Nomad 2 features a new tubular chassis that is 60 percent stiffer in torsional rigidity compared to its predecessor. The wheelbase has been extended by 1.9 inches, and the tracks have been widened by 2 inches, improving stability and handling. The double wishbone suspension comes standard with K-Tech coil-over aluminum dampers and Eibach dual-rate springs. For those seeking even greater performance, optional upgrades include adjustable Ohlins TTX dampers or Bilstein two-stage dampers with remote reservoirs.

Ariel has carried over only three parts from the original Nomad, ensuring the Nomad 2 is a thoroughly modern machine. The vehicle maintains its signature exposed and mechanical look, with new “almost unbreakable” body panels that are more aerodynamic. The rugged design is complemented by a host of advanced features, including an adjustable launch, traction control, and ABS systems. The brakes are 40 percent larger than before, with adjustable front/rear bias and a hydraulic handbrake for precise control.

Inside, the Nomad 2 continues the no-nonsense approach with a focus on driver engagement and simplicity. The vehicle is highly customizable, with over 100 options available. Each unit is built to order by a single technician at Ariel’s factory in Somerset, UK, ensuring meticulous attention to detail and quality.

The Ariel Nomad 2 is priced from £67,992 ($86,995), making it a high-end option for off-road enthusiasts.
