MYTHIC: PvPvE
[The game where Halo’s most prolific griefer, Irridiate, behaves … cos he has to … and sometimes because he wants to play nice. And with years of experience team-killing his own side, he sure can fly a banshee!]
“MYTHIC” is a densely-packed multi-modal battlefield in which the real enemy is the map itself. The Gulch Of The Gods conjures a melting pot of ancient mythologies chiseled into stony cliff faces with a mythic level of difficulty in terms of cartographical kickback. The guardians are ever present to frustrate and eliminate players on all sides via: minefields; invisible bog holes; a self-detonating blow-up bridge; unpredictable cross-winds; 4x cantankerous jumbo gravlifts; vehicle jump shortcuts; carved idols belching explosives; mobile landmines and fusion coils that roll down escarpments and roadways; booby-trapped vehicles; and deadly kill-balls that rain death throughout the battlefield. Even with no players in-game, the map is alive … and steeled for vengeance.
As if that’s not enough to contend with, you might also have Irridiate blocking your shots. But fear not: located beneath the teeth of “Halosaurus” – breathing fire and hungry for the human sacrifices of sinful mortals – is a purpose-built griefer prison packed with explosives (and no exit) for naughty little gamers who should be neither seen nor heard. We like a “Jackass”-style prank so ET+G made a spin-off MYTHIC map to dishonour the service of Irridiate. Only problem is, he liked it. XD. More about that in our other YT clip descriptions …
It’s not meant to be easy: it’s mythic. It’s not for over-competitive, sweaty ego hogs who only wanna play the same old games with their same clique on the same monotonous maps again and again and again. Yawn. MYTHIC is just for fun: fly warthogs; dodge hazards; chillax and talk fraff with old and new friends. Well, not always … sometimes full lobbies do get as sweaty as last week’s re-worn jockstrap … but xET 117x thinks laundry is over-rated anyway.
Each map variation has various objectives, stashed weapons and augmented spawn points to spark up the action. To settle old scores, some modes have a specially-equipped “Pink Team Dance-off Floor” to bust out your best moves … Ummm, you’ll see what that means.
The central transparent Light Bridge Accelerator is a snared route to – possibly – jump your Warthog jeep through the Halo hoop to teleport into a restricted cave stashed with upgraded vehicles, aircraft, weapons and armour abilities. In our “Dogfight” air wars mode, the Accelerator has been reconfigured to a higher level of difficulty for a slim chance of getting your hands on one of two Sabre aircraft. High risk: high reward. Crash or crash through.
“Dogfight Air” is our favourite variant MYTHIC map, which can be opened up to 3x teams. It works well with low numbers as well as a full lobby of 16 players for a 5v5v6 to increase the cut-throat action against the leading crew (Gradey80 gets to be on the larger team cos he needs to handicap everyone else just to survive).
MYTHIC combines half a dozen game concepts that we decided to roll into one map. It grew from Gradey80’s original base map: “Snipers” … but he never hosts it, cos he’s such a hopeless shot with a scope.
The subsided Lighthouse base features two spiral staircases which present a challenging hide-and-seek vertical arena with entrances at top, bottom and middle of the structure … or scale the dilapidated neighbouring building and slip through the open window. xET 117x’s original triple-staircase seemed to be too mind-boggling, so we hollowed out the Lighthouse (except for “CTF Air”, which allows flags to be flown across the gulch on Falcons or Jetpacks).
To mitigate against raiders and spawn campers, CTF modes spawn 50% of players into a protected zone (alongside choice weapons/equipment) with two additional spawn areas to help launch counter-attacks.
So if you’re up for a challenge against the elements in a map with a subversive mind of its own, what mode do you wanna play with/against “MYTHIC”? CTF? Hot Pursuit Rekt? Tank Spank? Aerial CTF? Snipes? IRR1D1ATE ROCKET R4GE? Dogfight Air? Falcon Rally?
Inbox requests. No, don’t ask Gradey80 to host Falcon Race … he’s the worst pilot of all time (just too old and thick to keep up with the switching destinations XD).
[Our “CAIRO” suite of map variants available on Halo Infinite Multiplayer. Our “MYTHIC” games are hosted on Halo MCC (Master Chief Collection).]
-ET&G (playing as xET 117x and Gradey80 on xBox).
