VMWare needs to figure out a different storyline at 36:36. Essentially what he's saying is salve to traditional silos. He even invents a new silo "virtualization admins". FaaS is on our doorsteps folks. The bottom line is that business units DO NOT VALUE all this heavy lifting. It was, and has always been, a means to an end -- delivering customer features. So, while your company probably isn't ready for it yet (which is why VMWare execs are applying soothing salve to the message), there WILL come a time when *everything* in the datacenter moves up to the conceptual level and is managed in code. For a while there will remain specializations, but as more and more moves into the conceptual level, the broader you can expand your people's breadth. Rather than employing "a mobile developer" you will start employing "software engineers with front end, security, FaaS, and testing" skills. It's coming. The world will look a lot different in 5 years.
