When F-15 Eagle Fired Longest Air-to-Air Missile Shot In History In 2021 #shorts
Показать описание
In March 2021, the F-15 Eagle downed a BQM-167 target drone by firing the longest air-to-air missile shot in history. An Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missile, or AMRAAM, was fired over the Eglin Test and Training Range by an F-15C Eagle stationed at Tyndall Air Force Base in Florida. The fighter wing declined to give a precise range since rivals might find that information useful. The weapon or aircraft used in the test may have also undergone some modification, but what is known is that the missile used in the test was an AIM-120D, which is the latest version of an all-weather, beyond-visual-range air-to-air missile that first saw service in the early 1990s. We can estimate the missile shot's range because the AIM-120D can travel up to 100 miles. The AIM-260 Integrated Superior Strategic Missile is a longer-range air-to-air missile that the US Air Force aims to use in the future to replace the AMRAAM. This weapon is expected to be better equipped to keep up with some of the systems developed by US rivals, such as the PL-15 missile of China's Air Force. The shot was part of attempts to create "long distance kill chain" capabilities.
