Nicola Gentile, born in 1885 in Sicily's Agrigento province, arrived in New York in 1903 and quickly became involved with the Black Hand. He was made into the Morello family and later joined Salvatore D’Aquila’s crew. By the 1920s, Gentile was a key representative for the New York mafia in Kansas City, Cleveland, and Pittsburgh. Following the Castellammarese War, he aligned with the Mangano family and became a trusted mafia messenger, helping resolve disputes nationwide. Fleeing to Sicily in 1937 , he became a mafia boss in Catania and even worked with Allied intelligence during WWII. However, after breaking omertà by publishing his autobiography in 1963, Gentile spent his final years in poverty and disgrace, dying in 1966 at age 81.

An informative and important Cosa Nostra history vignette! Nicola aka Nick in America was like the Forrest Gump of the Sicilian mafia - he was seemingly everywhere during key historical epochs in the development of the Honored Society in the USA + Sicily for 60 years. Was apparently made in Philadelphia in 1905 - 22 years before Harry Riccobene in 1927 (another long time member made in his teens who was "amico nostra" for over 70 years).

This guy's book is a wealth of knowledge of early Cosa Nostra history in America. He had administrative possitions in families all over the country. A shame that book never got translated. You can only get it in Italian.
