Quarter-Turn Fasteners

Thousands of different fasteners are used in motorsports and one of the most popular used for securing body panels and interiors are called, “Quarter-Turn Fasteners,” also known by the brand name “Dzus.”

With literally hundreds of quarter-turn fastener types, mounting configurations, size and thickness options, finding the right combination for your application can be extremely frustrating. Additionally, if the fasteners are not used or installed correctly, they are easily lost and in some cases, cause thousands of dollars in damage to body panels and paint.

To clear up some of the confusing regarding quarter-turn / dzus fasteners, we have put together a series of in-depth videos that will make it easy to select, install and maintain the correct fasteners for your application.

Our first video on the subject takes a look at different quarter-turn fastener styles, where they are used, along with sizing and matching springs and mounting hardware.

The next quarter-turn fastener video will explore how to measure and match a fastener and spring by thickness. Following this, we will look at Dzus installation, the tools used, spring adjustments and using solid rivets for self-eject fasteners.

Mr. Dzus would be proud to know his incredible design is still used today. Founded in 1936 and still produced in America at one of its factories in W. Islip Long Island.
Great explanation of its use Tim.

Great guide Tim, one other thing to note is the fastener and spring depth can vary dependant on the thickness of panels being clamped

I have a race car with earless 1/4 turn self ejecting fasteners. The round grommet is held in place by a retaining ring on the underside of the panel. I can't find these anywhere. The car is a Radical and the factory charges $20/fastener.That seems a bit steep so I'm trying to source elsewhere. Can you help? I can send a picture of needed.

I think it would be a good idea to offer a line with an exploding part in the design for quick deployment in the event of an emergency like a race car catching fire at the line that has a dozen or so Dzus fasteners.

Told a friend about these when he was building a battery box/access panel. I told them to use dzuz fasteners (zeus) he said they aren't zeus and got mad. Then he told me how these fasteners suck and how parts fly off cars. Lmao. Honestly everything sucks if you dont do it right...

What total disrespect dude. Dzus is more than a random trade name, this is the guy that invented this fastener and they made them all until the patent ran out, now inferior products are on the market.
