Real fam, a school banned clapping at sports events because it can be distracting for some students, and is instead telling people to use jazz hands when attending events...thoughts?

A lot of kids in this new generation are going to be a bunch of babies if we keep holding back praise for one because others may feel bad. Sometimes, certain kids are going to be better than others. That’s life! You just teach your kids to be their best!

Edit: This is nothing against the deaf community. Jazz hands is the signal for praise for those who are deaf. But this school isn’t doing this to teach others about American Sign Language. They’re doing this to not make other kids feel bad because they haven’t scored. This is crippling kids and not helping them. Play the game because you like it. Don’t throw a fit if you’re not the one getting praised.

They are not offending the deaf community. They are talking about a soccer game! A soccer game!

I get what you are saying but FYI, "jazz hands" is the sign for clapping in the deaf community. So yeah, it can substitute for clapping because a whole community already uses it.

I find this topic slightly ignorant or they are just uneducated, in the deaf community they use jazz hands and they can get just as excited as a hearing person it already substitutes clapping.

This is how people applaud in the Deaf community, so it’s obviously an acceptable alternative, but if the Away team is clapping (assuming they don’t have the same rule) then it’s pointless for concentration

I just lost brain cells by watching this, I won't be back!

I think this rule is absolutely ridiculous! A soccer game is not an ACT, SAT, or any other important test. Games are fun and usually loud. Banding applause for a select few is outrageous. People are going to have to deal with pressure and live with pressure. The world does not stop spinning because you have problems with your equilibrium

Cheering actually hypes up the team . Imagine being a Texan at a football game, doing jazz hands .

We are not talking about jazz hands for the deaf community.
We are talking about substituting clapping/cheering (so clearly people can hear) for jazz hands.
Two very different things.

My answer, nope!

I was just about to say that’s the sign for clapping for the deaf community as soon as I saw the headline for the clip. But I see every other comment is already saying the same thing.

🤣🤣Imagine jazz hands at a basketball game. All you would hear is "skiiirt" "skirrrt" of the players sneakers across the court and the sound of the swoosh when the ball goes into the net.

It is used in sign language. I know Auslan and I’m often using “jazz hands” . You can feel the excitement and it’s actually more inclusive.
