Is MixBox From IK Multimedia The Channel Strip Plug In You Can't Live Without?

IK Multimedia recently released a brand new channel strip style plug-in with over 70 included processors. Designed around the 500 series Lunch Box style modules, it contains elements from their Tracks, SampleTank, and Amplitube plug-ins. We’ve already covered the announcement and marketing talking points here. Rather than rehash all of the MixBox features, this article will look at the underlying question on everyone’s mind. Is this plug-in for me? The answer, not surprisingly, is; it depends.

The question isn’t a matter of whether MixBox is “good” or not. Just about all plug-ins released these days are not only useful, but they are also often excellent. Does MixBox sound good? Of course, it does. But “is it for you?” is a separate question.

I've had the T-RackS plugins for years and I love their tone, but putting it all into one channel strip is a no-brainer for userfriendliness, being able to store effect chains for future, and just the intuitive tweaking of all the parameters with one straightforward interface. So for me MixBox is really the innovation that brings out the full potential of IK Multimedias super good algorithms.

Got this for 30 bucks today and it's honestly the best 30 bucks I've ever spent. If your ears are attuned you can just hear how pleasing the subtle saturation lots of these plugins offer. I'm sure it's not as good as hardware but it's really good.

IK Multimedia needs to make its own DAW.

T-Racks changed my life. I was using Studio One stock plugins and just spinning my wheels. No offense to Presonus, I love the company, but their plugins seem like an afterthought. Except the Tricomp and VT1. Those are great but their saturation is trash. T-Racks will take you to the next level at a reasonable monetary cost, and not too bad on CPU. Good review! 🤙🏼

I've been using Slate's for some months but MixBox is really bringing some interesting colors to the music 🎶

I have all the main T-Racks plugins but this looks so easy and inspiring to use. If IK Multimedia put it on sale I might have to take the bait! 😎

Reminds me of Slate Digital's virtual mix rack.

I've just learned of this, I haven't had my iPad for very long. Next time I get brave enough to part w the cash, I'm getting it. On whether it's for everyone, I would think this app would be fun and useful to have whether one is a hobbyist who likes to mess with DAWs or whether someone is seriously into it. What's not to like.

Awesome plugin. Well COLLECTION of plugins really. Love how this thing sounds. The workflow may be easier than T-RackS 5. I like how you can easy slot in a module

I'm thinking about getting this to do rough mixes. Create a bunch of easy presets that I can just slap on stuff quickly.

I just got it free in the grope bye. I mean IK groped in my pocket and I waved 'bye' to my money. I am yet to be overly impressed with its capabilities, given that I have a plethorabof IK fx. Would've been nice to see Sunset Studio reverbs and rooms. Still, I'm sure I'll make use of it.

But their IK Multimedia Product Manager needs to improve. Often it simply does not respond to anything - especially after the update, it is a NIGHTMARE.
