Yes. Just come to Malaysia as a tourists and you'll get your money's worth. But you'll need to do your homework first, though. Don't plan on migrating to Malaysia, as currently there are already a back log of expats trying to move here. It's not a party goers haven here in Malaysia. Migrate to Thailand instead if you're looking for parties and adult entertainment, everything goes in Thailand. That's why they get more tourists visitation there even when there're news of human trafficking and kidnappings run by syndicates eyeing for unsuspecting tourists. Malaysia is just a family oriented and more calm city as a whole. So if you have a family, then you can consider the MM2H program. As for Kuala Lumpur being boring. Well, that's a very subjective matter. Some find KL more sophisticated, modern and fun in its own way. Just my 2 cents.

As KL native, I think KL is right now, operating or close to operating at its "zen" moment. It's pretty developed, peaceful, safe, modern and people are motivated

Poor research on what KL is. The Chinese you’re talking about are Malaysian citizens, not PRC nationals. It’s a key fact you left out. The race riot was 55 years ago! Also there are 2 categories of South Asians in KL: Indian-Malaysians and temporary migrant workers (from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Nepal). You can’t lump them all together. Also, poor hygiene is some parts are not correlated any particular ethnicity or nationality. And you can’t say the entire police force is corrupt because your friend said so. The crime rate in KL is pretty low, so the police are by and large doing their job.

The garbage photo in the building is actually an abandoned building. You have this kind of buildings in the Western world as well. The important thing is the main street should be kept relatively clean. The money that you have lost is probably your own negligence and does not carry the image of the whole country. If you have chosen a 5 star hotel, you wont have the issue of cleanliness, the unfriendly staff and the safety of your belongings. To measure a country's safety and corruption, you do not quote from a single incident or hear the news from a friend. You should look at the Peace Index for the safety and Malaysia's Peace index ranks 10 which is at the top 10. The corruption index for Malaysia is 53 ( not bad), Singapore is 3 (least corrupt in Asean), Vietnam is 88 (bad), Thailand is 110 (worse). Like Singapore, Malaysia is always hot and humid. For this reason, we don't walk too far when the sun is up. Usually, we choose the early morning or the late afternoon to do an outdoor exercise. Therefore, most of the time we travel by vehicles with the aircond turned on during the day. Lastly, not everyone prefers the scooter's chaos and the noise pollution from the scooter's honking in Vietnam and Thailand. I do prefer a place with less scooter's chaos where those scooters could zap right thru close to you from all directions which I feel dangerous. You forgot about the law enforcement on drugs, prostitution, illegal firearms, the open burning of crops and the online scam centers which are bad in the northern countries of Asean such as Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. (From Singapore)

It's important to distinguish between Kuala Lumpur (KL) and the broader Klang Valley or Greater Kuala Lumpur region. The city of Kuala Lumpur itself has a relatively small population of around 2 million people due to its limited residency area. Many of the apartments you might encounter are actually located in the neighboring Selangor state. This explains the apparent discrepancy in population and urban landscape. In fact, the majority of people who work in Kuala Lumpur actually reside in surrounding areas, which makes the city's borders less distinct and can create confusion for those unfamiliar with the metropolitan area's complex geography.

This is another example of how some "travel YouTubers" makes broad, irresponsible statements that come across as smug and uninformed. In his video, he generalized South Asian neighborhoods as ‘filthy’ while calling Chinese areas ‘clean, ’ reinforcing negative stereotypes without context or nuance. This kind of commentary lacks depth and fairness, making his content feel more like surface-level judgment than meaningful travel insight. And calling Malaysian police ‘corrupt’ based solely on a friend’s flimsy anecdote, spreading misinformation and reinforcing stereotypes. This has to be most unlikable travel YouTube.

6:01 Totally. I would say that rather than getting kicked out of the system, the ones who are determined to stay clean and serve with integrity are sidelined in the system, socially and in terms of their promotional prospects. You have to be willing to play the game if you want to get ahead.

I'm Malaysian and I think your review is pretty accurate! Except the police bribe one.. it USED to be like that, but they've made many improvements in the past decade and it's getting better!

Malaysia is definitely the best in terms of melting pots of delicious multi-etchnic cuisines.. fairly good education system modern medical facilities..reasonably clean city despite some less clean area just like any other well-known places in the world.. diverse cultures n friendly people most are English spoken.. some isolated incidents definitely cannot be used to judge the whole country..

While most of your comments are reasonable, your statement regarding May 13 was profoundly irresponsible. It reflects the arrogance of an entitled Asian immigrant attempting to adopt an American perspective. Bro, do your research and exercise responsibility before commenting on Malaysia, especially concerning the tragic and dark history of May 13. Your remarks not only display ignorance but also a blatant disregard for the gravity of that day. Such insensitivity undermines your integrity and credibility when sharing information with the public.

Technically, your money was stolen. But you essentially gave your money away by leaving it an unattended bag.

he aint wrong and he aint right,

KL is definitely not as walkable
If you leave your bag exposed in the middle of the night, get ready to be taken away. Never leave your stuff unattended even when youre in the states.

alot of cities in USA is dirtier than KL atm, but hygiene in Malaysian can be improved.

May 1969 did happen, its good to quote this event of racial discord, but definitely let readers do their own research, dont pick a side. YOu might also get in trouble with the law as this is highly sensitive subject here which can trigger. We are extremely peaceful and tolerant as of now.

Making comparisons isn't necessary. You came to Malaysia for a malaysian experience. Go to Iceland for Icelandic experience. I've been to some of the places you've mentioned, and they, too, have similar situations. These are living cities. Enough

I was just here in 2024 Feb, stayed for a few days at the Airbnb, and while I was driving I took a wrong turn and came up with a whole street full of Malay homeless people. Shocking to see this in Kuala Lumpur.

That sectarian violence "a while ago" was in 1969. 55 years ago. C'mon.
