Richard Dawkins in Chicago
Показать описание
No such thing as evil? That’s what the atheist worldview Richard Dawkins brings to #Chicago entails. But what wells up inside of us when we see injustice is the sense that this isn’t the way things should be—an experience that’s more at home in the #Christian #worldview than in atheism.
Pew Research shows most adults in the Chicago metro area are religious (77%) while the rest are unaffiliated with a religious tradition (only 3% identify as atheists).
In Dawkins’ The Blind Watchmaker, he says “in a universe of blind physical forces and genetic replication some people are going to get hurt. Other people are going to get lucky and you won’t find any rhyme or reason in it nor any justice…there is at bottom, no design, no purpose no evil and no good, nothing but blind pitiless indifference” (page 133).
But we know some things are really wrong. A worldview that says our world is nothing more than random chance and matter behaving according to law struggles to fully explain our deepest intuitions and experience of the world––especially when it comes to the reality of good and evil, justice and injustice.
