She deserved this. I was legit scared of her in that movie. Comedians can be serious actors as well if they're given the opportunity.

No one knows this, but Monique's attire is holding a secret. Her blue dress with gardenias is paying homage to Hattie McDaniel, the first African American actress to win an Oscar, who wore the same attire when she won for her role in Gone with the Wind.

The way Mo'Nique approached that stage you could see the sheer willpower of trying not to break down in emotion in front of everyone!  Very classy, beautiful woman...

Monique really had no competition that year.

Her acting in Precious blew my mind. She really poured her heart into an incredibly difficult role

I love how Mo'Nique not only won her Oscar but how she accepted it. Such poise, such power. She had faith in her talent, in her performance, and knew exactly what to say. No running on stage disheveled saying "Thank you, Jesus" and not being able to appropriately thank everyone behind the award. Even though her career has taken a slight tumble ever since, I always look at this clip when I need a definition of grace.

Hattie McDaniel wore a blue dress with white gardenias on her hair when she received her Oscar trophy so did MoNique

"First, I would like to thank the Academy for showing that it can be about the performance and not the politics."

That performance was old school. Method. Real. Gritty. Amazing. The woman needs more roles and we need to see her act, because her talent is breathtaking.

What a dignified acceptance speech for a memorable performance. She managed in her closing scene to actually make me feel compassion for what was a truly loathsome character. That's great acting.

I'm mad that Hollywood blacklisted her... She is a giant on the screen and she deserves to return to act like the award winning actress that she is...

Tbh, I never thought I would ever see her portraying a character that was not funny and actually demonstrating some fine acting skills. This will always be her best role (besides Nikki Parker), as she put so much behind the performance and put the raw and gritty emotions behind it. I was so respectable of her as a comedian, but as an actress, I am a lot more than I was before. She has truly come a long way, and I hope she does more roles like this along with her stand up comedy. Love you, Mo'Nique 😘🌟🌟👏👏👏

One of the greatest performances ever on film.
So authentic and real that I forgot I was watching a fictional story.
