So people should look more closely at this guy's views when it comes to indigenous land. He talks a lot. He is right about the west, of course. But it is not a matter of false equivalence to note that non western states are heavily influenced by and very much embody colonial values and practices. Prashad knows this, he is not dumb. But at home, and in many non western places, he may not have the same level of concern for the vulnerable and displaced. There is a prickly deflection when it comes to what has happened to black and indigenous South Asians, as if any connecting of that to historic western colonialism is an attempt to "both sides" imperialism. It is pretty silly and after a while it is hard to resist the impression that this is one more classist prof who likes the sound of his own voice.
