Accountant here, I paid my student loans off with in the 10 allotted years to do so (so on time). But because I went the non-profit route instead of private/ corporate, I racked up a lot of debt just to survive outside of paying my loans. I refrained from deferring, forebearing, over limiting, or paying late, but I could only pay the bare minimum on other bills. In the end, it took another 10 yrs to dig out of debt. I'll be there in two more months!! Now I am focusing on saving and investing. I never want to work because I have to again. I only want to do the kind of work I want and work when I want. I want more free time and I want to serve my community more. It can be done. No more feeding the "machine" 100% of my time and money.

I got through respiratory school with no debt but I had a lot left from my first go at school. It was amazing to get my first grown-up size paychecks!!! I started working with a financial advisor and I just bought a car (paid in full) that doesn't have anything wrong with it, I'm making automatic deposits into a savings account for a downpayment on a trailer so my 31-year-old ass can move out of my parents' house, and my debt can be handled in about 2 more years if I stick with the plan.

Unfortunately, I'm also thinking about med school...
