The Fujifilm x100v is the fifth in the x100 camera range! Its one of the few cameras id happily say has changed my photography and the way i shoot!

In this video i talk about why i upgraded from the Fujifilm x100f and what i love about the new Fujifilm x100v camera!

As this is just a first impression video ill be sure to do more experimenting over the next few days.. first impressions tho! WOW :-)

X100V a better option than the XPro3? 😂

My first venture into the Fujifilm world was through the X-Pro 1, which I bought with the three primes.
At the time, I had a Leica M9 and a Leica 35mm lens (I can’t remember which one) and was awaiting the delivery of a Leica 50mm lens to go along with the M9. Jacobs, that great camera group (sadly long gone) was taking ages to deliver the 50mm so I cancelled and bought the X-Pro 1 instead.
Well it wasn’t long before I decided to sell the M9 and replaced it with a Nikon D600 as I still wanted to be in the full frame world but... that was the camera that had the shutter that spewed oil and debris onto the sensor, so it was sold and that’s how I ended up with the X100S.
The only reason I don’t have it now is it was sold, along with the X-Pro 1 to buy an X-T1.
Now, I’ve come full circle and the X-T1, 18mm and 35mm Fuji lenses have been sold to fund the purchase of the X100V.
I love the silver, it’s beautiful but, I’ve gone for the black for my street work.
So while I wait on it coming into stock, I’m using my XF10 as my main camera... seriously.
I’ve ordered the weather kit, half price when bought with the X100V, and I’ll get the lens hood shortly too... and a screen protector.
I too will switch off the touch screen... don’t use it on the XH10.
PS the X100V has the guts of the X-T3 so it should be a much better focusing camera... I hope so.

I have had the X100F since 2017 and the X100V for a week. You are right about once you get the camera set up you don’t change settings. The only settings I ever change are focus area, ISO, film simulation and frame rate (single shot or continuous).

I get attached too. I have Pentax K-30 that I’ve had for eight years and I just can’t sell it. Every time I declutter and think I really should let it go it ends up back in the cupboard. I love that I can take it everywhere get buried in snow and the thing still works. Covered in sand, washed it off in the shower, still works. It’s a beast. Obviously not recommending covering any camera in sand or washing it in a shower but that’s why I can’t let it go because I can throw anything at it and it just takes it. I think I should just marry it at this point 🤣

Thank you for your honest review, Gareth 👍👍 I'd sooner buy the X100V than replace my X-T3 with the newly announced X-T4. I truly miss carrying an X100 camera with me at all times. With that new lens, it just ticks all the essential boxes.

Just bought 100v as you said just throw into your pocket no bag needed. I was a little disappointed that you have to buy a filter and hood for weather sealing and sun flare adding another €130 on top of the price. I think Fuji should have supplied it in the box and add onto price. If someone was asking me between 100v and XT-4 I would tell them XT-4 is better value for money and it's not that much more really for what you get. I came across a tip on YouTube to put insulated tape inside the little door to cover plugin points. The AL button is my back button focus on XT-4 but I've assigned the front fn button (ND FILTER) on my 100v and it's easier to use with one hand at all angles. Worth a try. I agree I'd like one or two more Fn buttons.

all these new money making features. I'll keep my Fuji X 100. It still takes amazing images. I use it for professional editorial work along with my canon 5d's The Fuji has some obvious image quality differences. Love it, and the magazine editors love the look of the images I am capturing with it. Its just a fun camera to use. Is it worth up grading?

great review mate, I'm in awe of this system since buying a used X100, which developed the SAB issue, so moved to the T a banging camera until it drown in a flash flood, got the F via insurance, and i'm still blown away by this mighty wee beast. I love to travel and shoot light and this camera never disappoints, whether Im shooting, street, portraits, or landscapes, especially landscapes, its soooo flexible, you have to work a tad harder but when you do it delivers the goods. I will upgrade to the V my main reasons being the flip screen to save my knees, the weather sealing due to my liking for shooting in bad conditions, the new lens will be interesting too.
I really can't fault the F so after watching yours and others reviews the V is going to be a welcome addition. Top work mate thanks.

The lens being the way it’s designed it definitely cannot track focus like a similar lens on an xt3 or whathaveyou. It’s cool they basically squeezed the xt3 into a much smaller body but you are correct. It isn’t a camera built for action or speed. It’s definitely made to be a more personal experience. I love how you have to engage your environment and subject to get shots you want with this one. Definitely be my primary take everywhere camera with the xt4 being there for the versatility.

Just started watching this as a dedicated X100 / T / F fan, loking forward to your review mate but right off the bat at 0:29 I gotta say that sweet looking camera is perfectly colour co-ordinated with your back to the vid.

Hi Gareth, I have had the X100V on my wish list for a while, however the announcement of the new XE-4 with the 27mm mk2 pancake lens is giving me doubts now? It's early days yet I know but I would be very interested on your thoughts if and when you get hold of one.

I’ll get mine next week and the xt4 in April (fingers crossed). Getting my 90mm f2 in tomorrow and can not wait to have a stabilized 90mm lens. My all time favorite lens is the canon 100mm f2.8 and the 90mm looks to perform even better.

The biggest improvement I'm impressed with is Carmarthen cameras new store! Lol. Haven't been there since they moved but looks nice inside. I guess plenty people go there as pretty much only proper camera store in this area. Oh yeah nice camera 😜

I have a black one on order and still waiting impatiently. Just read some reports of overheating on dpreview. Have you noticed any amiss with your X100V?

Great review, now they have added the flip screen and updated the lens I think I’ll be splashing out on one of these. Just don’t tell the wife.

Many great points I had not seen in other reviews Gareth. So impressed with the processor and EVF in my X-T30, that ready to upgrade to X-T4. Now tempted by the 100V too. Looks like a trip to Carmarthen is on the cards. Will gather up my X-Pro1/X-T1/T2/X20 and see if Carmarthen cameras can keep my marriage intact.

Dont forget there's 2 function buttons on the front as well as the 4 assignable buttons on the back - page 250/1 of the manual

Gareth, great review thanks for posting. I’m torn between the silver vs. black frame for an everyday, everywhere camera. Since you have worked with both the black x100f and now the silver x100v, which of the colors is more cameraflauged, unobtrusive and doesn’t influence the situation being documented. Which of these do you feel drew less attention?

Sold my X100F, X-T30 and X-Pro2 and purchased the Pro3 for my set of Fujicron primes and preordered my X100V. Wish B&H would get them in and ship...
