Fun fact as well...
King George sent a letter addressed to the American colonists during initial beginning of the Revolution.
It was read to the signers of the Declaration of Independence before signing of the document.
He said " those who rebel will be hung".
They signed it anyway.

Benjamin Franklin rewrote that part of the declaration because even if Christian beliefs are the reason for the way of life that we wanted to live and the country we wanted to form, Christian beliefs and the Christian way of living are good not because they are Christian, but because they are good. Benjamin Franklin knew that we have to be able to defend our views with out using Christianity as a crutch. And we need to be able to speak to people we don't agree with and explain why things are good with out saying "because Jesus". And this is coming some one who believes.

“We hold these truths to be self evident that all men are created equal and are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights.” If you deny the Creator you deny you have unalienable rights, only permissions given you by government or kept from you by it.

Andrew, I just wanted to tell you that you lost one of your biggest fans recently. My grandmother was a huge fan of your crime novels and had a number of them in her bookshelves. It was because of her love of crime that sparked my love of crime and deduction as a kid, and pushed me into a career in law enforcement. When she found out about your podcast, she had me come by weekly to download it for her (she refused to learn technology), and we would have some really great conversations while listening to you. She passed away Monday morning, after a short fight with cancer, but this little clip gave me so much joy because it is exactly why she enjoyed listening to you so much and it made me cry honestly. Thank you for everything you do, and thank you for the impact you made in our lives. God bless you, sir.

I am a religious Jew. I believe that the difference between TJ's "sacred", and BF's "self evident", is because BF KNEW that practically, organized religion seeks to limit "man's" rights all the time!!

TJ was a dieist, not RELIGOUS, in an organized way. The problem was that he thought he could speak to the hearts of men, whereas BF was being practical and not relying upon men's sense of religion...

Give respect to the indigenous people of this land because many aspects of the Constitution came from them.

Franklin was one of my ancestors on my moms side. This explains a lot of where my perspective and point of view came from!

Shapiro is just thinking "Does he know I'm Jewish? Can he see the little cap on my head?"

It’s nonsense that this was an exclusively Christian concept. The Buddha and other philosophical thinkers around the world throughout history said much the same thing. They just never had the opportunity to found a new country and establish a radical new form of government.

Benjamin Franklin was a Philosophic Initiate, he was a member of L'Ordre Du Lis, and a member of the Rosicrucian World Council. So much for your knowledge of history!

Religion limits the rights of man. Look at England, France, the Caliphate, the HRE and Easter Orthodoxy. People did understand the importance of individualism before Christianity, look at the Greeks and the Romans for instance. You cant have a republic or a democracy without knowing the importance of individual rights and thinking.

Self evident means he was consciously aware to the degree that it was obvious.. he was “sharing truth” that many were NOT aware of.

One of the most telling narratives of this clip is that Ben Shapiro couldn't get a word in edgewise 🤐 lol

Fun fact: Benjamin Franklin was an escaped slave. Technically, he was an indentured servant who reneged on his agreement and escaped.

If Franklin and Jefferson were alive today they would be atheist. They may have already been. To say he wasn’t a good theological thinker, is to dismiss the truth that Franklin did not buy into the religious BS of the past.

It has nothing to do with religion. It was worded that way to sway religious people but the founding fathers were not religious. Most of them actually looked at religious followers as weak minded.

Benjamin Franklin was stating that we have evolved enough to realize that we are in a symbiotic relationship with everyone else on the planet, and to look at people as a commodity or expendable is self-destructive at its basic nature. Benjamin Franklin realized we didn't need a religion to justify the rights of all humans.

Everybody's rights were sacred. And everybody was a sovereign Individual made in God's image, except for their slaves of course.
