France's interior minister has warned the public to prepare for "tough decisions".
Gerald Darmanin's comments come as the government holds emergency talks over the country's response to the second wave of COVID-19.
Cabinet ministers are reportedly considering a range of measures - - that could see the lockdown restrictions extended.
An announcement on the new rules is expected on Wednesday.
France has the highest number of coronavirus cases in Europe and 54 percent of the country's currently ICU beds are occupied by novel coronavirus patients.
