We thought at that time that no would come close to Michaels 19:32 world record anytime soon because the record for a long time was 19:72. MJ broke the record at 19:66 at the U.S trials in 1996 and that same year at the Olympics in Alanta brought it down all the way to 19:32.

If you look at both races separately, you will clearly see that as soon as Michael Johnson's toes crossed the line, the time was stopped. Bolt, on the other hand, the time was stopped after Bolt entire body crossed the line.

If the time was stopped for Usain Bolt as soon as his toes crossed the line, Usain Bolt would have clocked a time of around 18:93
