Alaska is on track to break records for snowfall amounts after Anchorage was blanketed with more than 100 inches of snow (the earliest accumulation of such amounts in history), roofs collapsed and schools closed.

The city, which received nearly 16 inches of snow over the weekend, has received more than 8½ feet this winter, breaking the 100-inch mark for the second year in a row. If this trend continues, Anchorage could break its historical record of 134½ inches, recorded in the winter of 2011.

The staggering amount of precipitation has been a problem for the snow-covered city, causing three buildings to collapse already this year.

In Anchorage, Alaska, a formidable snowstorm has descended upon the city, blanketing the landscape in a pristine coat of white. The city, accustomed to the challenges posed by its Arctic climate, is facing one of the most significant snowfalls in recent memory. As the snowflakes gently cascade from the heavens, a sense of both awe and apprehension grips the residents.
