Designing Medical Devices: Getting Started

Marten Smith, from our medical device group, joins us to discuss the important aspects of designing medical devices. We will start by getting an update on the major market areas within the medical device industry. After that, we will discuss the different challenges to keep in mind as you begin to design medical devices.

After we cover the basics of these medical device markets, we will dive into how to design a drug delivery device. We’ll start by determining the basic requirements of a drug delivery system that is competitive in the current market. Then, you will learn about how to deal with the challenges of creating devices that allow doctors and insurance companies to better support patients. We will be using two demos, a mesh nebulizer and a micropump, to illustrate these concepts.
