AMD Radeon HD 7990 6GB Graphics Card Review - PC Perspective

Today's release of the Radeon HD 7990 6GB Malta dual-GPU graphics card shows a renewed focus on high-end graphics markets since the release of the Radeon HD 7970 in January of 2012. And while you may have seen something for sale previously with the HD 7990 name attached, those were custom designs built by partners, not by AMD.

So a card slower than both the GTX690 and the 7990 is the best? Do you game in 4k? ;)

I think you're getting your statistics from around 2010. 40% scaling was what one would expect for 5000 or 200 series cards. Current gen scaling for dual GPU setups is typically around 80% or higher, and a third GPU will add around 30% or 40% performance at high resolutions.

a/tom's bench, the amd prototype driver(7990) improves significant performance and frame time variance

thank you very much for your time, I think I will go for the titan sli :)

Is this card available at retailers yet? If not, I don't see a problem in reviewing with the BETA drivers as long as they are available upon actual release. If they are available now, review with the latest drivers available to the public.

You guys give me everything I want in PC gaming. Just the facts and no bull shit.

cool, thanks that helped me a lot because I have been looking at a lot of bench marks that didn't tell the same story but I think a titan would work well. thanks :)

Power consumption is likely to be alot less( see the non official 7990s power figures). Also being a reference 7990 means for watercooling/aircooling manufactures (e.g Arctic Cooling and EK Cooling) they'll have to just make one model and it will fit all.

very good video and article. I know that the new driver he is talking about addresses the crossfire issues, however, how does the new driver affect a single 7970 card? I have one and I am contemplating updating to the new driver.

Not necessarily. What you're failing to consider is that 3+ GPU setups often suffer far less from microstutter, which, in many cases, can practically nullify the benefits of a dual GPU setup. Personally, I would stick to just one card though.

He never said it was the 1st gen dual gpu cards. Just showing some examples. Seemed very informed to me. No need to show every card.

Well from a business standpoint, it's easier and more profitable to partner with the game plubishers and giveaway free digital games than to actually reduce the price of the card. But you can sell the game codes and recieve some physical cash if you want but if you have a card like this it's inevitable you'll need some games so it's a nice thing to have.

Price depends from manufacturer. U can get MSI 7990 and ASUS 7990 card, MSI costs 544, 90€ and ASUS costs 705, 59€. It also depends where will you buy it.

I would buy 2 x MSI 7990 for 1089, 80€. Not bad :O

The performance is probably better now because of the newer drivers

Well since the 13.9 drivers we are in fact living in this perfect world.

Don't know why you're answering to me, when I'm not the one who made the comment in the first place. Next to that 4 titans may be overkill even for 3 1600p surround screens for all games currently, yet it's the fastest single gpu card there is. Which makes it the fastest quadfire/quadsli setup currently possible. Faster than 7990 or 690 could be because you can't put them quadfire/sli (or in this case 8xfire/sli, because of dual gpu's), that's faster when money ain't an issue.

Extensive testing says otherwise. Just because you're too oblivious to notice it doesn't mean it's "BS."

FX-8350, i7-4770k or Xeon for processor and an ROG or G. Sniper for motherboard.
Gaming motherboards usually have many useful features and they are a bit overkill. Not the best bang for your buck but they pack in them the best components and features.
