Prof R Jayaraman (1936-2019)
Prof Jayaraman former principal, CET and DTE expired at his residence in Goureesapattom at 8.30 am on Friday 1 March 2019. He was 82.
Prof R.Jayaraman, was the eldest son of Prof S.Rajaraman, the very first staff of College of Engineering, Tvm.
He was a brilliant teacher and student and Gold Medallist of Civil Engineering Bachelor and Masters, CET.
He was a Doctorate holder from IIT Madras in Hydraulics Engineering.
He retired as Director of Technical Education, Kerala Govt, after working as the Principal of CET, Tvm.
He also worked as professor emeritus in IIT Madras after retirement.
Veteran ham radio operator with call sign VU2JN, he was the recipient of the first life-time achievement award of the Amateur Radio Society of India (ARSI) affliated to the International Amateur Radio Union (IARU).
He was the brain behind Tvm Engg College’s planetarium when it was first set up.
Prof Jayaraman resided in Goureesapattom, Tvm. He is survived by wife Kamala, son Anantharaman J who is also a civil engineer from CET working in Chennai, Dr Geetha J, former journalist and filmmaker, and Radha J who works in SCMS, Kochi.
A documentary made by filmmakers Geetha and her husband Dr Ian McDonald titled OM:OldMan on Prof Jayaraman and his passion, Ham Radio has been screened at many national and international film festivals.
