Coding blogs are dying (what to build instead)

Common advice for developers wanting to share their skills online is to start a blog. But with major coding websites seeing a fall in usage, it's clear today's developers want instant answers—the kind only AI can provide. In this video, I share why I'm moving away from blogging, and the radical new approach I'm taking to keep up with the changing landscape.

I just started a blog for the sole purpose of documenting my experiences. Not necessarily about any specific code I wrote, but more about the why I did x on y project or something I found interesting that I think others might feel the same about. Great video, tom. I think dev blogs are still super relevant, but there is a much higher barrier to entry now. It’s not enough to write about trivial stuff or anything AI can answer in one simple query. But there is still a lot of demand for cutting-edge and complex stuff. AI is very good at answering common questions for well-known topics. But it absolutely sucks when it comes to niche knowledge and bleeding edge tech.

The last blog that got me really interested was the story of how a developer cracked down on the pokewalker and managed to get the ROM dump. It was a really long and technical Post but also really interessting.

The primary purpose of a blog isn’t to solve a problem, it’s to share a perspective on something. Also, what do you think is training the AI? If we stop writing, the models don’t get any new info.

Some posts on this channel are great, but I'm realizing now that listening to posts such as this one from beginning to end is quite tiresome. I would imagine the monotonic voice from beginning to end makes things easier during the editing stage, but it's a double-edged sword. While it simplifies editing, it drains the content of energy and makes it difficult to stay engaged.
