Such sweet dogs. Their health struggles are such a shame

Not a day goes by where I don't miss my Great Dane. Her name was Pepper and she was small for a Dane (still a big girl, though). She was so sweet and the gentlest girl we ever had. She is the reason I want another one. I'm not ready for the heartbreak aspect of the breed, but they're so wonderful! The joy and love they bring is greater than the pain of losing them.

We had a great dane that live to 11 years 8 months. They are the most wonderful dogs on earth. Funny, sweet and protective. Practically a perfect dog.

Helpful tip. If/when getting your Dane spayed or neutered, that is a good time to have the vet do a gastropexy. That anchors the stomach to the interior wall of the belly. This prevents the stomach from flipping (bloat). Also, get raised bowls for them. If they bend down to eat, they inhale big as they eat, and need a corrected posture. The extra air goes into the esophagus AND they’re fighting against gravity to get the food up. This can cause bloat.

When I was a kid we had a no-pet policy at my house so my neighbor would let me go to his backyard to pet his great dane and labrador every so often. She lived 10+ healthy years and died of natural causes in her sleep. I’ll always remember Lucy.

My Great Dane, attikus lived to be 14 years old and died of age, he had no cancer, heart issues or liver issues surprisingly

My great danes were such awesome dogs. Very loving, funny and for me very easy to train. One of my Great Danes live to be 13 which is a good age for a Dane.

My family's onto our second Great Dane. We have a Great Dane / Cane Corso mix now, but our first one lived to be thirteen, which was well past her age expectancy. I hope we can keep this one as long as we can too, because he's amazing.

My wife and I have a great Dane that is 7 yrs old. The best dog we have ever had and despite their "sweet" nature, she's arguably the best guard dog we have ever had.

Magnificent animals, so sweet.Thats really sad what breeders have sacrificed for size. The dogs are the one's who suffers.
