The Saker honing guide has a wide roller and presumably will keep the chisel properly positioned on the whetstone.

Okay, nice video. I have been wanting a chisel honing guide, but with so many on the market, I thought I'd research it first. So that got me to this video. I liked what you said about the designer had got the size of the roller just right, so as to be able to hold the guide steady with no rocking. Well, I ordered this very same guide, because you said it was a good one.

Well, the notches that are there to hold the chisel in place, really aren't shaped in a way to hold the chisel. The shape doesn't match most traditional chisel side profiles. But, the big, main problem is that the roller has so much play, that the guide does indeed rock back and forth. I don't see how anyone could hold this guide steady.

I suppose it would be great for honing plane blades that you want to relieve the edges. But for a 1/2" chisel, I can't see it making a perfectly square and flat bevel.

I thought that maybe it was a defect, until I watched the video again, then I heard you say it was made to favor either edge on a plane blade, so that tells me, it's really only good for plane blades. I also noticed that you never showed it in actual use.

Unlike my wife, I do not know everything about everything, so if there is something I'm missing, by all means, please explain. Otherwise, I'll send it back and try another brand.

Anyway, sorry for the review, but I have some very old socket chisels I'm desperatly wanting to sharpen, and it's hard to find sharpening tools good enough to give me the results I want.

Hey cool video. I just love the lil' dog saying help, but you forgot to mention that if you have chisels with thicker sides. Then good luck getting it seated properly. Ergo you are not ensured a square edge on the tool; unless of course you take a file to it an bring that seating down a bit more. Now it's an alright honing guide I'll admit that, but it's definitely not the turd you're polishing it out to be!

Yet, nobody says how to set a consistent/repeatable angle each time you use it.
