The Mavic Air offers slow-motion (1080p at 120fps) while the Mavic Pro offers cinema 4K (4096×2160 at 24fps). These are both 4K folding drones that offer a variety of intelligent flight modes. After about a couple of dozen reviews... I went with the platinum. And so far no regrets. I really enjoy/. Like it. 👍.

At first I wasn't sure I'd use the hand gesture feature on the Mavic Air. Some reviewers mentioned it was just a gimmick. But it's easy to use that feature to launch, start filming, jump on my bicycle and go without carrying the controller at all. It follows me perfectly since it stays at a fairly close range in that mode. More useful than I first thought.

DJI released the Air in time to compete vs another company for bit rate with more frames per second. 4k takes up a ton of space so most users would not need that, if your shooting for a movie I'm sure most pilots would go for the inspire.

Unless you really need the car charger and the USB charging adaptor, or you get a good deal on Pro combo, it's actually better to get Mavic Pro (Platinum) set and get 2 more batteries with an advance charger with change to spare. The bag is useless since it's barely enough for a drone with remote and 3 batteries.

Thank you for this comparison! I decided on the Mavic Pro Platinum because range and flight time were more important for me. Just like your Mavic Air, I constantly have Sparrows fly around my Parrot Bebop 2. Maybe the black and white colors are more approachable for birds? LOL

Hey Dan, I was thinking of upgrading from my phantom 3 standard I was leaning toward the air as i love its portability over the phantom. But now that I have my RePL I am planning to later get into professional flying would you recommend the air for that or should I buy the mavic pro instead? I really would like to get the mavic pro 2 but they are a little too pricey. Also, I read that you flew them in Redlands, QLD how bad was the interference with the air, I fly in and around Brisbane so it would be nice to get an idea.

Nice review! What about noise and the reaction of the public to it? I am thinking of buying either the Air of Pro platinum and it seems to me the noise could be a big thing when flying in the vasinity of people or animals?

Hello Dan, sorry i am not sure here, but is less frames per second better? why would film be 24 as a standard.
I would imagine having more frames in the second is nice and smooth?

I'm getting kind of nervous I just ordered the mavric air last night, I already own the spark & I hate losing reception 😖. I figured dji made the air reliable like the mavric pro using ocusync since it is branded under the mavric name. Sounds more like It's a spark 2 if it's using wifi transmission😤, I should of did my research a little better before purchasing it. All I was hearing people talking about was the better gimbal 😒 im more interested in a reliable signal feed.Your video was very informative!
