Fry Scream and False Cord Comparison

There are 2 main extreme vocal techniques: fry scream and false cord. They might sound very similar but they are done differently.
Fry scream sound source is real vocal folds, it uses a tiny bit of air (it can last up to a minute), the beauty of fry is overtones, you try to enhance them. It's a popular choice for melodic bands (with exceptions ofc). Fry is a common choice for clean vocalists because it's easier to switch from clean to fry.
False cord is a "rattle" and the sound source is supraglottic structures such as false cords, arytenoids, and aryepiglottic folds. It uses more air than clean singing. It's used mostly in extreme metal genres due to the rougher more "brutal" tone (with exceptions ofc). False cord also has beautiful subtones, which makes it a popular choice for low growling.

I’m partial yo false cord growl, I’ve enjoyed the technique since I was a small child. Adding a natural tone for a muli voice is super helpful when dealing with telemarketers.

By the way, asking which vocal style we prefer is like asking which guitar note we prefer - choosing just one doesn't make sense. A good song combines several guitar notes and several vocal styles to make a combination that sounds good, right?

Very nice one. I do both false chord and fry but my false chord lacks some crisp and my fry lacks loudness :(
