Mark Knopfler - 'Sultans of Swing' (Royal Albert Hall, May 23. 1996.)

Audio is from "Sultans of Swing: The Very Best of Dire Straits" compilation, originally released as both a one disc edition and two disc edition in August 1998. The second disc contains live performances.

The compilation was re-released together with a DVD in 2002. The DVD features the music videos of all the songs on the first disc, in addition to short interviews with Mark Knopfler about each song.

In my opinion, probably the best Mark Knopflers live performance. Fantastic sound, especially solo which is one of the most beautiful guitar performances I ever heard. Mark proved himself as extraordinary guitar player, master of harmony and melody, open for improvisations and variations. Just perfect!

Wow, just wow. Another amazing version of Sultans of Swing. I am hard pressed to name a favourite one, and happy I don't have to. I think it is a testament to a great piece of music that there can be so many versions to enjoy, and a testament to the musical genius of Knopfler/Dire Straits that they seem to produce a unique version of unparalleled quality every time they do a live performance.

Every live version of sos seems to bring something new to the table, and in terms of freshness, this one takes the cake for me. I guess my love affair with sos started about 20 years ago, when I first heard a live version of sos on the 'live at the bbc' cd I got as a present from a dear friend. I always really enjoyed the studio version, but the live version just blew me away. Little did I know there are so many out there, and thank God for the internet and Youtube to have such easy access to them. I am not yet done exploring all the versions, but I intend to take my time for it!

I've heard most of the versions of this song and I too agree that this is the best version by a long shot. The brothers in arms that is played during this concert is also the best version. Its a shame there is no video footage of this concert.
