In this video, I compare the 1999 Goldsieber and 2019 Mercury editions of the Franz-Benno Delonge classic Big City.

Board Gems highlights older board and card games that are still great games today, and deserve to not be forgotten!

Paid a lot of money for the new edition. Don't regret it, but kind of wish we saw production (and pricing) more in line with the original edition instead. While I like the game well enough, not sure the cost was justified and I actually like the look of the original version better. The way buildings aren't scaled very well against each other really detracts from the aesthetics. Having brand new expansion buildings to go with the jumbo edition is cool though!

Keen to see your *is it a gem* video covering this game in the future!

Very informative video, thank you.
Some surprisingly poor decisions went into the new version (buildings out of scale, horrible scoring track and markers): I'm happy to have the original; among other things it has a much more atmospheric colour scheme and graphic style.
By the way, playing the game with a sound track of ambient city noises (there are some on youtube and Spotify) is a must.

Looking forward to those opinions! ;) I've not had too many chances to play Delonge games but, from what I have played, I suspect I'll like Big City.
