Morning Espresso with The La Pavoni Professional

A couple of weeks ago I got my hands on a 2006 La Pavoni Europiccola Professional PLH (wood edition) that was horribly neglected by it's previous owner.

After a complete rebuild I've been enjoying this little machine for my morning espresso for a while now. Thought I'd share my morning espresso routine with you. The coffee I used is a natural Ethiopian coffee called "Wolichu Wachu" roasted by my favorite specialty coffee roastery: Het Koffielab in Utrecht, The Netherlands.

As I recorded this video, I'm still waiting on my new bottomless portafilter, IMS basket, IMS shower screen and heatsink I ordered with Coffee Sensor in Romania.

Enjoy this video!

Coffee gear:
- La Pavoni Professional PLH
- Eureka Mignon Specialita (leather version)
- Acaia Pearl
- Fellow Atmos (0.7L)
- Joe Frex Walnut Elegance tamper

Gear I used to make the video:
- Sony A7II
- Moza AirCross Gimbal
- Sony 50mm prime lens
- Adobe Premiere Pro

Awesome job, I use my la pavoni everyday. I have learned to pull back to back shots by dipping the group head into a cup of cold water each time I pull another shot, keeps the temp regulated. It's truly an enjoyable machine to use.

Almost identical to my own routine, though I’ve taken to releasing a little steam just before the raise as well. Those rituals the LP encourages.

Nice job! I have a La Pavoni I rebuilt a few years ago and I still use it every day.

Thanks for the nice video. I have purchased the Europiccola back in 2016, and it still works great. Except my Graef grinder failed on me, I didn't get the nice Espresso crema anymore! I'm searching reviews about the Eureka in combination with the Europiccola, and arrived on your channel. Thank you for the confirmation.

It’s a shame I can’t like twice a video. Gorgeous short film.

Gorgeous short film! The thin DOF really gives the shots a luxury feel - which befits your exquisite coffee equipment very well. The lighting is also very good and combines well with the clean interior and blue denim shirt.

Just a small note: try to keep the 180° degree rule. Sometimes you cut from the one side of the machine to a close-up of the other, which is a bit jarring (for example at (1:08-1:13).

Also, at 01:53 I would have filmed from a bit higher angle, so you could see the actual coffee being pressed in the cup. There’s too much distraction and blank space around the cup now, whereas the coffee should be the focus. Just some tips for a generally extreme well-done video!

Koffie drink ze!

I do not have Europiccolo yet, but plan to get it later. However, you have made me go to drink some coffee :-)

I've recently borrowed a Europiccola from a friend, with a view to possibly buying it. For the last 10-15 years I've been using my trusty Fracino Cherub, but I always liked the idea of manual lever, and my Cherub has seen better days, so I took my friend up on his kind offer to 'try it and make me an offer'.
The Europiccola leaks steam, the 0.8 litre boiler isn't big enough for the two of us, the steam wand is sh1t at foaming milk, the machine is pretty dangerous to use, I'm left handed and always burn myself every time I try using it.

quality of the coffee I get from it is absolutely lovely. Probably some of the best coffee I've ever had, ever. A cappuccino I made on the Europiccola took me back in time to a café my mother and grandmother took us in as kids in the late 1970s. The taste of the coffee took me back to that exact place in time.

At the end of the day I probably won't buy my friend's Europiccola. He thought it was the Professional model, with the 1.6 litre boiler, which is the model I was interested in seeing in the first place. The 0.8 litre is the model I really didn't want, it's pretty useless for me and my missus to use comfortably - a cappuccino each and steaming the milk takes the water gauge down to about a quarter from full. So I will return it to my friend and look for a he practically gives it away, and then I could use the money to buy the 1.6 litre boiler, pay for a service, and buy all new replacement gaskets, but I don't want to be cheeky with such a lowball offer 🙄🤷‍👍✌☕

Yeeesh the production quality on this. Yeeeesh. Makes my stuff look like it was filmed by a 3-year-old holding a popsicle. Well done.

You can't fool me, La Pavoni. I've seen James Bond, i know how coffee looks like

1:30 Looks like you have way too much pressure in the group head. Maybe your grind is too fine? You can also raise the steam wand to stop it dripping while you pull.

Lekker bezig, bevalt deze machine nog steeds? En kan je er ook een lungo mee zetten?

Is there anyway from avoiding the grouphead from bending downwards during the pull?
