freeze the cucumber after cutting to size, thaw them out again and drop them in, they will sink

I feed my plecos a combination of cucumbers and squash, but first I MICROWAVE them to soften them up.I then cut a slit between the skin and the flesh and put a lead PLANT weight on the veggies. Much cheaper, and it works very well.

What i do instead of using that spring is to use an airstone .i push the part that usually goes into your airstone into the vegetable. and it sinks.

Make sure if you feed cucumber or zucchini you blanch them, and if feeding cucumbers remove seeds.

Quick tip, use an old shoe lace and tie it on, so you can extract the "metal piece" out of the tank easily. I use an old coat hanger and bend it into that same shape, when they start to get nasty/rusty, replace. boom.

We found the first attempt did not really work because you have to put the screeners through the skin and have the flesh more exposed. The second attempt we did the screw through the skin and had the flesh showing upwards. Before long the “soft-flesh” of the cucumber was just- about eaten up! Our third attempt was even more successful/ almost nothing left if it!

I find those to be too much in the way of the actual cucumber meat. a single 25 cent 1/2" SS screw inserted to the bottom/back of a cucumber slice works wonders.
