I finished The Last Bear this evening. It's not often that a middle grade book brings me to tears but I was definitely fighting them off at the end of that one. A beautiful story.

When you talked about short stories loosely and thematically linked by place it made me think of Summer Light And Then Comes The Night by Jon Kalman Stefansson which is set in a tiny town of 400 people in Iceland. Its actually a novel but it tells different stories of people in the town and what happens in the dark winter and midnight sun. It's really weird and kind of darkly whimsical in a way I think you'd like

As someone in a similar position regarding eyesight, I would recommend reading Georgina Kleege. I am reading More than Meets the Eye: What Blindness Brings to Art from her. I am reading it for research for uni and haven’t finished it, but I really like her writing and it has helped me think about my relationship with visual art.
